Dear Friends in Christ
This Sunday we resume Sunday School at 9:15 and our regular worship schedule at 8:00 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. Come to be nurtured in faith by hearing the Word and sharing in the Sacrament of Holy Communion. This Sunday we focus on how Jesus calls us to be his church. It’s not always a perfect entity (perhaps hardly ever,) but Jesus works through this imperfect community, and we are responsible for carrying Jesus in a broken world. Adult Forum: Starts up again next Sunday, September 17. See below for details. Please read Romans chapter 13 and the sidebar notes for this chapter in your Lutheran Study Bible (LSB.) In this chapter, the Apostle Paul again speaks of “building up,” including respecting the government, but mostly loving one another. He says the commandments “are summed up in this word, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” If you don’t yet have a LSB, see Pastor Mark.
PRINTS OF PEACE
PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH
September 10, 2017
Worship Schedule: Today we begin our program year worship schedule: two services at 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
Annual Peace Picnic THIS SUNDAY at Noon. The theme this year is Maker Fun Factory. We'll have games and activities and of course yummy food! Wear your favorite construction clothes, or your Vacation Bible School T‑shirt. Cost is $3 for adults and $2 for kids ages 4 ‑ 12, and kids 3 and under are free. We need lots of side dishes and deserts and drinks ‑ please sign up in the narthex. Also, if you are able to help with set up or clean up, please sign up for that too. Friends are always welcome! Questions? Email AllisonHearst@aol.com, HelenHandley@gmail.com, or LouAnnST@yahoo.com
Semiannual Congregation Meeting: Our next meeting will be October 8, between services, at 9:15 a.m. Please join us, whether you are a member or friend of Peace.
Reading for Next Week: Please read Romans chapter 14 and the sidebar notes for this chapter in your Lutheran Study Bible (LSB.) This chapter speaks of the challenges in the Roman community between those who restrict themselves from eating meat (which in those days was obtained only from the purveyors who sacrificed the meat to idols.) Paul says that everyone should respect the eating habits of others, so as not to make them feel guilty. This is a great treatise for consideration of each other in the church, in order to “build up” each other, and the body of Christ. If you don’t yet have a LSB, see Pastor Mark.
Inspirational Messages: Pastor Mark would like to reach out to the congregation with a brief message a couple times per week. If you want to receive these, please fill out the form in the red attendance folders. Messages will be sent via a text, Facebook account, and Twitter. Any questions, contact Beth Papke at (847) 438-5294 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Attendance: On September 3, 72 members and friends attended service. Eighteen worshiped with us at Lexington Service this week.

Adult Forum: On break for the summer. Resumes next Sunday, September 17. We will be viewing a video series called Reformation Roots. Do you ever wonder why we have so many Christian denominations, and if there is really much difference between them? The answers to these questions lie in the dramatic and turbulent times of the Reformation. Please plan on joining us.
Simply Giving: Many of our members and friends give by Simply Giving automated debit. This program has no fees for you or our congregation. This program is very important for our congregation. It keeps income steady during the summer months when giving drops because of people being out of town. Please consider it! If you do participate in Simply Giving, when you worship please grab a Giving Acknowledgment Card from an usher in order to physically fulfill the act of giving during the offertory. There are forms on the table in the narthex.
Giving Acknowledgment Cards: If you participate in the Simply Giving program or if you do not have an offering on a particular Sunday you can still participate in the act of giving during the service, ask an usher for a small laminated Giving Acknowledgment Card before you enter the sanctuary. You can then place the card in the offering plate to acknowledge your support of our ministries at Peace.
Prayer Requests: We pray for those who need healing and wholeness: for Amy Falco, Justin Morgenthaler; Kathy Zak, Kristen Jorgensen, Gina Redina and Margaret Sherman-Piercy. Our practice is we will pray for an individual for at least 4 Sundays or until the end of the following month. After that time, we ask that you contact the office or Pastor Mark to keep your loved one on the prayer list. If your loved one inadvertently falls off the prayer list, please request to put this person back on the list. Thank you.) We need pray-ers! If you would like to be a participant in the Circle of Prayer, please contact Terry Koncel at PeacePrays@mail.com.

Looking for people who like to sew! We are in the process of making school bags for Lutheran World Relief and could use help making them. The kits are all put together and in a bin in the hallway by the office. Take as many kits and instructions as you like. Just mark your name and the number of kits that you take on the sign up sheet on the bulletin board above the bin and mark it off when you return them finished to the bin. They do not need to be completed until December as they will be used at our next Mission Projects Day in February 2018. IF you can sew a straight line you can make this easy project! We also need people to sew the pillow covers that we make for Journey Care Hospice The kit can also be found in the bin in the hallway. Thanks! Please call Sue Koenig with any questions.

There will be many volunteers to help at each table, but the lead will guide the process.
