Worship Videos for Wednesday Night Healing Service
Lent Wednesday Night Healing Service (on Youtube) February 24, 2021 Pastor Daniel Morris GREETING The God of healing, hope, and wholeness be with you all. And also with you. The Son of righteousness fill you with hope and peace. May it be the same for our neighbors and friends. The Spirit of holiness and resurrection stir within you. May the wind that brought forth creation from chaos continue to do so. Pastor Daniel Morris PRAYER Holy God of all creation, every breeze, tide, and tectonic shift is known to you. All times and places are held within your infinite expanse of grace. Guide us in your mercy to perceive our place of rest in your faithfulness, which you have revealed to all through Jesus Christ, your Son and our Lord. To him, with you and the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and forever. Amen. Our reading is read by Deacon Tracy Katschke. READING: Luke 4:1-13 Our reading is from Luke 1Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, 2where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing at all during those days, and when they were over, he was famished. 3The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become a loaf of bread." 4Jesus answered him, "It is written, 'One does not live by bread alone.'" 5Then the devil led him up and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. 6And the devil said to him, "To you I will give their glory and all this authority; for it has been given over to me, and I give it to anyone I please. 7If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours." 8Jesus answered him, "It is written, 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve only him.'" 9Then the devil took him to Jerusalem, and placed him on the pinnacle of the temple, saying to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, 10for it is written, 'He will command his angels concerning you, to protect you,' 11and 'On their hands they will bear you up, so that you will not dash your foot against a stone.'" 12Jesus answered him, "It is said, 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'" 13When the devil had finished every test, he departed from him until an opportune time. Jeff Horvath will lead the assembly in our reflecting song. REFLECTING SONG “Healer of Our Every Ill” Refrain: Healer of our every ill light of each tomorrow, give us peace beyond our fear, and hope beyond our sorrow. 1 You who know our fears and sadness, grace us with your peace and gladness; Spirit of all comfort, fill our hearts. Refrain 2 In the pain and joy beholding how your grace is still unfolding, give us all your vision, God of love. Refrain 3 Give us strength to love each other, ev'ry sister, ev'ry brother; Spirit of all kindness, be our guide. Refrain 4 You who know each thought and feeling, teach us all your way of healing; Spirit of compassion, fill each heart. Refrain Pastor Daniel Morris leads the Litany for Reflection and Healing. LITANY FOR REFLECTION AND HEALING Psalm 103 1Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless God’s holy name. 2Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all God’s benefits? 3who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases; 4who redeems your life from the grave and crowns you with steadfast love and mercy; 5who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like an eagle’s. 6O Lord, you provide vindication and justice for all who are oppressed. 7You made known your ways to Moses and your works to the children of Israel. 8Lord, you are full of compassion and mercy, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love; 9you will not always accuse us, nor will you keep your anger forever. 10You have not dealt with us according to our sins, nor repaid us according to our iniquities. 11For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is your steadfast love for those who fear you. 12As far as the east is from the west, so far have you removed our transgressions from us. 13As a father has compassion for his children, so you have compassion for those who fear you, O Lord. 14For you know well how we are formed; you remember that we are but dust. 15As for mortals, their days are like the grass; they flourish like a flower of the field; 16when the wind passes over it, it is gone, and its place shall know it no more. 17But your steadfast love, O Lord, is forever with those who fear you, and your righteousness is for the children’s children; 18for those who keep your covenant and remember to do your commandments. 19The Lord’s throne is established in heaven; God’s dominion rules over all. 20Bless the Lord, you angels, you mighty ones who do God’s bidding, who obey the voice of God’s word. 21Bless the Lord, all you hosts of God, you servants who do God’s will. 22Bless the Lord, all you works of God, in all places where God rules; bless the Lord, O my soul. Pastor Daniel Morris SILENCE FOR REFLECTION We are now entering a time of silence. For some of us, this stillness is welcome and invited. For others, the quiet is disruptive or unsettling. There is no one right way to do this. As your thoughts come, ask God to hold them for you. While we are here together, there is nowhere else you need to be. Consider the pioneer of our faith, Jesus, sitting with you in silence. Settle into the rest of this time and allow it to settle into you. The time of silence begins and ends by sounding a tone. Pastor Daniel Morris HEALING INTRODUCTION Our Lord Jesus healed many as a sign of the reign of God come near and sent the disciples to continue this work of healing—with prayer, the laying on of hands, and anointing. In the name of Christ, the great healer and reconciler of the world, we now entrust to God all who are in need of healing. Living God, through the laying on of hands [and anointing], grant comfort in suffering to all who are in need of healing. When they are afraid, give them courage; when afflicted, give them patience; when dejected, give them hope; and when alone, assure them of the support of your holy people. Pastor Daniel Morris THE LORD'S PRAYER Lord, remember us in your kingdom and teach us to pray. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. Allison Hearst and Terry Koncel will lead the assembly in our closing song. CLOSING SONG “Beneath the Cross of Jesus” (vs 1-3) 1 Beneath the cross of Jesus I long to take my stand; the shadow of a mighty rock within a weary land, a home within a wilderness, a rest upon the way, from the burning of the noontide heat and burdens of the day. 2 Upon the cross of Jesus, my eye at times can see the very dying form of one who suffered there for me. And from my contrite heart, with tears, two wonders I confess: the wonder of his glorious love and my unworthiness. 3 I take, O cross, your shadow for my abiding place; I ask no other sunshine than the sunshine of his face; content to let the world go by, to know no gain nor loss, my sinful self my only shame, my glory all, the cross. Pastor Daniel Morris sends the assembly forth in peace. SENDING Go in peace. The Spirit of healing goes with you. Thanks be to God. A sign of peace may be shared by all in the household. Emmaus Evening Prayer Service February 21, 2021
Emmaus Evening Prayer Worship and Dinner The service will be available on YouTube at 5:00 p.m. Dinner follows the service. Emmaus style evening prayer takes its name from a story found in Luke 24:13-35 when the risen Christ travels to Emmaus with two unwitting disciples on the day of his resurrection (Sunday). On the road he opens the scriptures to them, causing their hearts to burn within them, and his true identity is finally revealed to them in the breaking of bread at the evening meal. This service uses the liturgy for Holden Evening Prayer. It is intended to be followed by a meal around the dinner table. Consider making your table special by adding a table cloth, using your most festive dinnerware, and/or lighting a candle. Also consider sharing this meal with someone over the phone, especially if you live alone. Holden Evening Prayer by Marty Haugen SERVICE OF LIGHT Leader: Jesus Christ is the light of the world; All: the light no darkness can overcome; Leader: Stay with us now, for it is evening, All: and the day is almost over. Leader: Let your light scatter the darkness, All: and shine within your people here. Evening Hymn (All sing.) 1.Joyous light of heavenly glory, loving glow of God’s own face, you who sing creation’s story, shine on every land and race. Now as evening falls around us, we shall raise our songs to you, God of daybreak, God of shadows, come and light our hearts anew. 2. In the stars that grace the darkness, in the blazing sun of dawn, of the light of peace and wisdom, we can hear your quiet song. Love that fills the night with wonder, love that warms the weary soul, Love that bursts all chains asunder, set us free and make us whole. 3. You who made the heaven’s splendor, every dancing star of night, make us shine with gentle justice, let us each reflect our light. Mighty God of all creation, gentle Christ who lights our way, loving spirit of salvation, lead us on to endless day. Evening Thanksgiving Leader: May God be with you all, All: and also with you Leader: Let us sing our thanks to God, All: it is right to give God thanks and praise. All: Amen GOSPEL: Mark 1:9-15 The holy gospel according to Mark. Glory to you, O Lord. 9In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. 11And a voice came from heaven, “You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.” 12And the Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. 13He was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels waited on him. 14Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, 15and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.” The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. SERMON The light shines in the darkness All: and the darkness has not overcome it. Ash Wednesday Service Wednesday, February 17, 2021 How to prepare your ashes: Add a drop of olive oil or two and mix. Add another drop if necessary. It should be a paste Assembly gathers for silence Pastor Daniel and the assembly greet each other. GREETING The Lord be with you. And also with you. Pastor Daniel leads the prayer of the day. PRAYER OF THE DAY Let us pray. A brief silence is kept before the prayer. Almighty and ever-living God, you hate nothing you have made, and you forgive the sins of all who are penitent. Create in us new and honest hearts, so that, truly repenting of our sins, we may receive from you, the God of all mercy, full pardon and forgiveness through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. Our first reading is read by Sue Koenig FIRST READING: Joel 2:1-2, 12-17 Our first reading is from Joel. 1Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming, it is near-- 2a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness! Like blackness spread upon the mountains a great and powerful army comes; their like has never been from of old, nor will be again after them in ages to come. 12Yet even now, says the Lord, return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; 13rend your hearts and not your clothing. Return to the Lord, your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and relents from punishing. 14Who knows whether he will not turn and relent, and leave a blessing behind him, a grain offering and a drink offering for the Lord, your God? 15Blow the trumpet in Zion; sanctify a fast; call a solemn assembly; 16gather the people. Sanctify the congregation; assemble the aged; gather the children, even infants at the breast. Let the bridegroom leave his room, and the bride her canopy. 17Between the vestibule and the altar let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep. Let them say, “Spare your people, O Lord, and do not make your heritage a mockery, a byword among the nations. Why should it be said among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?’ ” The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Sue Koenig leads the assembly in psalm response. PSALM: Psalm 51:1-17 1Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; in your great compassion blot out my offenses. 2Wash me through and through from my wickedness, and cleanse me from my sin. 3For I know my offenses, and my sin is ever before me. 4Against you only have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are justified when you speak and right in your judgment. 5Indeed, I was born steeped in wickedness, a sinner from my mother’s womb. 6Indeed, you delight in truth deep within me, and would have me know wisdom deep within. 7Remove my sins with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be purer than snow. 8Let me hear joy and gladness; that the body you have broken may rejoice. 9Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my wickedness. 10Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. 11Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. 12Restore to me the joy of your salvation and sustain me with your bountiful Spirit. 13Let me teach your ways to offenders, and sinners shall be restored to you. 14Rescue me from bloodshed, O God of my salvation, and my tongue shall sing of your righteousness. 15O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall proclaim your praise. 16For you take no delight in sacrifice, or I would give it. You are not pleased with burnt offering. 17The sacrifice of God is a troubled spirit; a troubled and broken heart, O God, you will not despise. Our second reading is read by Sue Koenig SECOND READING: 2 Corinthians 5:20b--6:10 Our Second reading is from 2 Corinthians. 20bWe entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 6:1As we work together with him, we urge you also not to accept the grace of God in vain. 2For he says, “At an acceptable time I have listened to you, and on a day of salvation I have helped you.” See, now is the acceptable time; see, now is the day of salvation! 3We are putting no obstacle in anyone’s way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, 4but as servants of God we have commended ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, 5beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, sleepless nights, hunger; 6by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, holiness of spirit, genuine love, 7truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; 8in honor and dishonor, in ill repute and good repute. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; 9as unknown, and yet are well known; as dying, and see—we are alive; as punished, and yet not killed; 10as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Andy Heroff will lead the assembly in the gospel acclamation GOSPEL ACCLAMATION Let your steadfast love come to us, O Lord. Let your steadfast love come to us, O Lord. Save us as you promised; we will trust your word. Let your steadfast love come to us, O Lord. The gospel is read by Pastor Daniel Morris. GOSPEL: Matthew 6:1-6, 16-21 The holy gospel according to Matthew. Glory to you, O Lord. [Jesus said to the disciples:] 1“Beware of practicing your piety before others in order to be seen by them; for then you have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2“So whenever you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be praised by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. 3But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your alms may be done in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. 5“And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, so that they may be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. 6But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. 16“And whenever you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so as to show others that they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. 17But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18so that your fasting may be seen not by others but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. 19“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; 20but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. Pastor Daniel Morris proclaims God’s Word for you in the sermon. SERMON Ben and Karen Dahlke will lead the assembly in our Hymn of the Day. HYMN OF THE DAY The Glory of These Forty Days 1 The glory of these forty days we celebrate with songs of praise; for Christ, through whom all things were made, himself has fasted and has prayed. 2 Alone and fasting Moses saw the loving God who gave the law; and to Elijah, fasting, came the steeds and chariots of flame. Pastor Daniel Morris invites the assembly into the discipline of Lent INVITATION TO LENT Friends in Christ, today with the whole church we enter the time of remembering Jesus’ passover from death to life, and our life in Christ is renewed. We begin this holy season by acknowledging our need for repentance and for God’s mercy. We are created to experience joy in communion with God, to love one another, and to live in harmony with creation. But our sinful rebellion separates us from God, our neighbors, and creation, so that we do not enjoy the life our creator intended. As disciples of Jesus, we are called to a discipline that contends against evil and resists whatever leads us away from love of God and neighbor. I invite you, therefore, to the discipline of Lent—self-examination and repentance, prayer and fasting, sacrificial giving and works of love—strengthened by the gifts of word and sacrament. Let us continue our journey through these forty days to the great Three Days of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Pastor Daniel Morris CONFESSION OF SIN Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another. Silence is kept for reflection and self-examination. Most holy and merciful God, we confess to you and to one another, and before the whole company of heaven, that we have sinned by our fault, by our own fault, by our own most grievous fault, in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart, and mind, and strength. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We have not forgiven others as we have been forgiven. Have mercy on us, O God. We have shut our ears to your call to serve as Christ served us. We have not been true to the mind of Christ. We have grieved your Holy Spirit. Have mercy on us, O God. Our past unfaithfulness, the pride, envy, hypocrisy, and apathy that have infected our lives, we confess to you. Have mercy on us, O God. Our self-indulgent appetites and ways, and our exploitation of other people, we confess to you. Have mercy on us, O God. Our negligence in prayer and worship, and our failure to share the faith that is in us, we confess to you. Have mercy on us, O God. Our neglect of human need and suffering, and our indifference to injustice and cruelty, we confess to you. Have mercy on us, O God. Our false judgments, our uncharitable thoughts toward our neighbors, and our prejudice and contempt toward those who differ from us, we confess to you. Have mercy on us, O God. Our waste and pollution of your creation, and our lack of concern for those who come after us, we confess to you. Have mercy on us, O God. Restore us, O God, and let your anger depart from us. Hear us, O God, for your mercy is great. Pastor Daniel Morris IMPOSITION OF ASHES We dedicated the Ashes with the following prayer when we gathered in the parking lot last Sunday. Almighty God, you have created us out of the dust of the earth. May these ashes be a sign of our mortality and penitence, reminding us that only by the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ are we given eternal life; through the same Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. At this time, you may distribute the ashes to the members of your household. If you do not have ash, you may still trace the sign of the cross on your forehead with your finger and repeat the words below. Dip your thumb into the ash and trace a cross on the forehead of each member of your household while saying these words from Genesis 3:19, “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” Ask someone to trace a cross on your forehead. If you are the sole member of your household, trace the ashen cross on your forehead. MUSIC FOR REFLECTION: Ashes After those who desire ashes have received them, all may kneel or sit, and Pastor Daniel continues. Accomplish in us, O God, the work of your salvation, that we may show forth your glory in the world. By the cross and passion of your Son, our Savior, bring us with all your saints to the joy of his resurrection. Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen. Jason Fralish leads the assembly in prayer PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION Relying on the promises of God, we pray boldly for the church, the world, and all in need. A brief silence. O God, you call your church to be ministers of reconciliation throughout the world. Inspire your church in its proclamation of the gospel and guide its ministries to build up the body of Christ. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. O God, you created the earth and all its inhabitants and you declared that it is good. Protect mountains and valleys, animals and plants, and direct us to be good stewards of all you have made. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. O God, you desire peace. Direct governments and leaders to work for the well-being of all people and raise up advocates to speak and serve on behalf of the downtrodden. Lord, in your mercy. hear our prayer. O God, you are our hope in the midst of despair, our help in the midst of sorrow, and our consolation in the midst of affliction. Grant comfort to all who suffer in body, mind, or spirit and support caregivers who attend to all in need. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. O God, you are love, and you call us to love one another. Accompany with your grace those journeying toward baptism and call us all to repentance as we prepare to celebrate Christ’s death and resurrection. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. We entrust ourselves and all our prayers to you, O faithful God, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. OFFERING Harmony “Create in Me a Clean Heart” Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with your free Spirit. Jason Fralish leads the assembly in prayer. PRAYER Let us pray. A brief silence is kept. Merciful God, accompany our journey through these forty days. Renew us in the gift of baptism, that we may provide for those who are poor, pray for those in need, fast from self-indulgence, and above all that we may find our treasure in the life of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. Pastor Daniel LORD’S PRAYER Lord, remember us in your kingdom and teach us to pray. Amen. Ben and Karen Dahlke will lead the assembly in our sending song SENDING SONG ”The Glory of These Forty Days” 3 So Daniel trained his mystic sight, delivered from the lions' might; and John, the Bridegroom's friend, became the herald of Messiah's name. 4 Then grant, O God, that we may, too, return in fast and prayer to you. Our spirits strengthen with your grace, and give us joy to see your face. Pastor Daniel BLESSING You are what God made you to be: created in Christ Jesus for good works, chosen as holy and beloved, freed to serve your neighbor. Worship videos on YouTube forAsh Wednesday - 10 Minute Ash Wednesday Service Wednesday, February 17, 2021 How to prepare your ashes: Add a drop of olive oil or two and mix. Add another drop if necessary. It should be a paste Pastor Daniel and the assembly greet each other. GREETING The Lord be with you. And also with you. Sue Koenig leads the assembly in psalm response. Psalm 51:1-17 1Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; in your great compassion blot out my offenses. Silence for reflection follows the reading of the gospel. MUSIC FOR REFLECTION: Ashes Jason Fralish leads the assembly in prayer. PRAYER Let us pray. In the stars that grace the darkness, in the blazing sun of dawn, of the light of peace and wisdom, we can hear your quiet song. Love that fills the night with wonder, love that warms the weary soul, Love that bursts all chains asunder, set us free and make us whole. 3. All: Amen GOSPEL: Mark 9:2-9 The holy gospel according to Mark. Glory to you, O Lord. 2Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, 3and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no one on earth could bleach them. 4And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, who were talking with Jesus. 5Then Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 6He did not know what to say, for they were terrified. 7Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, “This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him!” 8Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more, but only Jesus. 9As they were coming down the mountain, he ordered them to tell no one about what they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead. The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. SERMON The light shines in the darkness All: and the darkness has not overcome it. All: Amen GOSPEL: Mark 1:29-39 The holy gospel according to Mark. Glory to you, O Lord. 29As soon as [Jesus and the disciples] left the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30Now Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told him about her at once. 31He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up. Then the fever left her, and she began to serve them. 32That evening, at sunset, they brought to him all who were sick or possessed with demons. 33And the whole city was gathered around the door. 34And he cured many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him. 35In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed. 36And Simon and his companions hunted for him. 37When they found him, they said to him, “Everyone is searching for you.” 38He answered, “Let us go on to the neighboring towns, so that I may proclaim the message there also; for that is what I came out to do.” 39And he went throughout Galilee, proclaiming the message in their synagogues and casting out demons.
