New Church Cookbook! We are proud and excited to announce that the 35th Anniversary Cookbook will be released thru email Saturday May 1st. Thank you to the volunteers from The Wednesday Weeders for coordinating and designing the cookbook and to the 55 cooks that have submitted their favorite recipes. This is a fundraiser to help with supplies and maintenance fees to maintain the beauty of the Community Prayer Labyrinth year round. All free will donations can be placed in a floral box we will have at church from May 1st thru May 16th or you can also mail your donation to the church office. Please help us and make a note if you mail a check that it is for the Cookbook Fundraiser.
May Day Celebration - Please join Mike Rojek and Beth Piff (Property Team Leads) on May 1st as they host a May Day Celebration on the church property. Please stop by anytime between 9am-4pm. FAITH FORMATION UPDATES
Join your Sunday school friends on May 2 & 16 from 10:00-10:30 as we focus on the theme of “Get Ready and Wait.” A meeting link will be sent on the Saturday prior to the lesson. Contact Liz or Natalie with any questions. Each Sunday you can access the Children’s bulletin with activities that enable families to worship together and learn from each week’s Scripture theme. You will find them at the end of your Sunday email for worship.
Women’s Bible Study: is ready to move on to a new book. We will be reading “From Widows to Warriors” by Lynn Japinga. In this book we will hear about over 40 women from the Old Testament, both the saints and the bad girls. We will dive into what each woman’s story means for us today with questions for reflection and discussion. We will continue to meet on Wednesday Morning at 9 am via zoom thru April. Contact Liz Hopman if you would like to join us. Starting in May, (May 4th), we will meet on Tuesday mornings at 9am at church. We are praying for nice weather so that we can meet outside but if the weather does not cooperate, we will meet inside in the narthex. You can bring your own lawn chair or use a chair from the church. If you have any questions, contact Carol Wojnarowski
HS Mission Trip Change: Earlier this year, our Youth families met with our Youth Director, Tracy Katschke, to discuss COVID and traveling for a mission trip this summer. It was decided NOT to go to Boston this year, but instead to put together an at-home mission trip! The new mission trip week is July 19th-23rd, 2021 and Tracy will be putting together daily service opportunities with Northern Illinois Food Bank and Habitat for Humanity; as well as ways to serve within our church and congregation! We will work Monday-Thursday of that week and have a “fun day” on Friday! If you are interested, the cost is $125/teen, with a $25 deposit due to Tracy by May 1st! Chaperones are also needed!
Triple D: We will be meeting again on Sunday, April 25th from 11:30am-12:30pm in the Peace Lutheran parking lot (weather permitting). Please bring your own lawn chair and a shower towel for a game. Get ready for an hour of awesome conversation and lots of fun!
Confirmation Classes: The Peace Lutheran Confirmation class resumed for it’s spring session over Zoom on Wednesday, April 7th, but will be launching something NEW in the coming weeks. Starting Wednesday, April 21st and lasting until May 5th, the Confirmation class will meet in a “hybrid” style. For those who wish to meet in person, class will begin at 6:15pm in the Peace parking lot (please bring your own chair and masks are required). The in-person session will meet from 6:15-7:15pm. From 7-8pm, the virtual session will meet and the hope is that the fifteen minute overlap in classes will allow for a time to check-in and provide community! If the hybrid model does not work, Tracy will look into other options.
Community Garden Preparation/Planting Day!: Spring is here, which means that it is time to start up the Peace Lutheran Community Garden! The garden will be expanding again this year, so we will need BOTH Confirmation and Youth Group participants to help. We will be working on the Community Garden during the May Day clean up on Saturday, May 1st from 9am-4pm. One of our Youth Group members, Grace Trumbull, will be leading the project since this initiative is part of her Girl Scout Gold Award. On May 1st, we will need to: build additional raised garden beds, till the soil, add new soil, expand the chicken wire, build trellises and, of course, plant seeds and vegetable plants! All teens are encouraged to bring their own water bottle and tools. Once we finish with the community garden, there will be PLENTY of other projects to work on!
