Worship Schedule: Our worship schedule is the service of Holy Communion at 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. On May 27, Memorial Day weekend, we begin our summer schedule of one service at 9:00 a.m.
Reading for Next Week: Please read Romans chapter 8 plus the sidebar notes for this chapter in your Lutheran Study Bible (LSB.) Here Paul contrasts life in the Spirit and life in the flesh. This is not a denial that Jesus lived a human life in the flesh, or that human life is corrupt. Instead, Paul uses the word “flesh” to indicate “the body as misused and controlled by the power of sin.” (LSB note) Life in the Spirit, then, means leading life in our human, fleshly bodies, but not giving way to the worst of sinful living. If you don’t yet have a LSB, see Pastor Mark. Adult Forum: Join us for Adult Forum this week as we continue a meaningful video series on prayer. Pastor Mark will lead the discussion. Attendance: On May 6, 2018, 99 attended worship. On May 9, 2018, 17 attended the service at Lexington. Semi-Annual Meeting: Please join us this Sunday, May 6th between services for Peace’s semi-annual meeting (approx. 9:15.) We need to vote on new leaders and share good news and good works. Please be there.
Dear Friends in Christ: Sunday: Alleluia! Christ is risen! The Church celebrates Easter for seven Sundays. This Sunday we will consider again Jesus’ call to “love one another.” Is this theme getting tedious? It is essential that we understand this command from Jesus. At 10:30 we will baptize Isabella Brynn Turano. Come and hear God’s Word and be fed by Jesus in bread and wine. Adult Forum: On break for Semiannual Congregation Meeting. Next Sunday we continue viewing a movie called “The Gospel of John.” It uses the text of John set to cinema action. This is an amazing movie. We will meet in the sanctuary approximately 9:15 a.m. Reading for this Sunday: Please read 1 John (not the Gospel of John) chapter 5 plus the sidebar notes for this chapter in your Lutheran Study Bible (LSB.) This chapter concludes the teaching of 1 John. The themes of loving each other, obeying God’s commandments, believing in the Son (Jesus,) and receiving eternal life are woven together. The main point of this letter is that God first loves us, then we respond by believing, loving, and serving. If you don’t yet have a LSB, see Pastor Mark. Baptism: This Sunday May 6th during the 10:30 service we will welcome Isabella Brynn Turano into the family of God and membership of Peace through the sacrament of Holy Baptism this morning. Isabella’s parents are Brianne and Anthony Turano. Isabella’s godparents are Brandon Lesch and Jennifer Turano. God bless you Isabella on your special day! Reading for Next Week: Please read John chapter 17 plus the sidebar notes for this chapter in your Lutheran Study Bible (LSB.) This chapter conveys many things, one, that Jesus is our intercessor, he intercedes for us before God the Father; two, we are “in the world but not of the world; three, he wants us all to be one with each other and God. If you don’t yet have a LSB, see Pastor Mark. Adult Forum: Join us for Adult Forum this week as we continue a meaningful video series on prayer. Pastor Mark will lead the discussion. Sunday: Alleluia! Christ is risen! The Church celebrates Easter for seven Sundays. This Sunday might be called “Jesus the True Vine” Sunday, as last Sunday was Good Shepherd Sunday. The Gospel of John uses metaphors for Jesus. This Sunday we consider what it means to be part of the life-giving vine that is Jesus. Come and hear God’s Word and be fed by Jesus in bread and wine.
