Dear Friends in Christ: Sunday: This Sunday we hear of Jesus’ miracle of calming the storm. The disciples feel that Jesus does not care for them in their anxiety, because he is asleep in the cabin during the storm! Do you ever feel that God is asleep when you are anxious? Come and hear God’s Word and be fed by Jesus in bread and wine. Adult Forum: On break until September. Reading for this Sunday: Please read 1 Corinthians chapter 8 plus the sidebar notes in your Lutheran Study Bible (LSB.) This chapter speaks of the suffering that the apostle Paul has been experiencing – suffering that makes him a reliable messenger of the gospel (good news.) Concerning the part about not marrying unbelievers, see a different opinion of Paul in 1 Corinthians 7:12-15. If you don’t yet have a LSB, see Pastor Mark.
Worship Schedule: Our Summer worship schedule is in effect. We have a service of Holy Communion at 9:00 a.m. Reading for Next Week: Please read 2 Corinthians chapter 8 plus the sidebar notes for this chapter in your Lutheran Study Bible (LSB.) Here the apostle Paul (apostle means one who witnessed the resurrected Jesus) is writing to the church in Corinth about generosity. Paul expects those who have an abundance to share generously with those who are poor - in that case the poor in Jerusalem. This chapter reinforces the multiple admonitions in the New Testament to those who are well off to give generously. If you don’t yet have a LSB, see Pastor Mark. Dear Friends in Christ: Sunday: Bring dad for worship at 9:00 and take him out for breakfast afterward! This Sunday we consider Jesus’ parables about the growth of seeds. One little seed can produce a huge plant! Think of loving works this way. Sometimes dads are rewarded with substantial positive outcomes by their children, who report a small deed that their dad had done in bringing up his kids! We all need to be aware of our ability to “sow seeds” of good in this world. Come and hear God’s Word and be fed by Jesus in bread and wine. Adult Forum: On break until September. Reading for this Sunday: Please read 1 Corinthians chapter 5 plus the sidebar notes in your Lutheran Study Bible (LSB.) This is a rich text from the apostle Paul. The tone is shaded by Paul’s suffering and rejection by the authorities and even by other missionaries! Paul talks about himself being an ambassador for Christ, working for the reconciliation of the world to God. How would you feel if you considered yourself an ambassador for God? If you don’t yet have a LSB, see Pastor Mark.

Come and hear God’s Word and be fed by Jesus in bread and wine. Adult Forum: On break until September. Reading for this Sunday: Please read 1 Corinthians chapter 4 plus the sidebar notes in your Lutheran Study Bible (LSB.) Here the apostle Paul (apostle means a witness of the resurrected Jesus) is writing to the church in Corinth, trying to convince them that he and Timothy represent the true gospel – they are the real thing. Other “super apostles” seem to have been imparting false teachings to the faithful at Corinth. They seem to be arrogant and condescending. Paul and Timothy, on the other hand, are like “clay jars,” that is, they are human, vulnerable, and suffer for the sake of Jesus, and do not condescend to the Corinthians. If you don’t yet have a LSB, see Pastor Mark.
