Each kit will include professionally packaged wafers and cups of juice for the members of your family. A gluten-free option is also available upon request. Kits will be made available for pick up at church on Saturday, December 19th from 11am-2pm or on Sunday, December 20th from 1pm-4pm. If you are unable to pick up at church during those times, please let Kari know you will need personal delivery to your home. Poinsettias: Available after Christmas Eve. The Longest Night Blue Christmas Service of light, music, and prayer will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 21 over Zoom. Christmas cookies and hot cocoa will follow over Zoom. Please prepare your own candles (real or electric) and candle holders for the time of prayer. The Interactive Christmas Eve Family Service of storytelling, carols, Holy Communion will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 24 over Zoom. Please prepare your own candles (real or electric) for the singing of Silent Night. The Christmas Eve Candlelight Service of Holy Communion will take place at 11:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 24. Special music will include a contribution by the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians and an anthem by the members of the Peace Lutheran Church choir. Please prepare your own candles (real or electric) for the singing of Silent Night. A service of Synodwide Lessons and Carols will be available in lieu of our regularly scheduled worship service on Sunday, December 27 at 10:30 a.m. The service consists of musical contributions made by synod congregations. NEW WORSHIP SCHEDULE COMING 2021 Thank you for helping us hear your voice with the Worship Team survey! After reviewing the results, the PPC determined that we will move into the new year with one Sunday service over Zoom at 9:00 a.m. followed by a fellowship/education hour. We will also be offering an Emmaus service on YouTube at 5:00 p.m. The COVID Team will continue checking in regularly in hopes of opening the sanctuary to limited, in-person gatherings as soon as possible. The new worship schedule will begin Sunday, January 3. Please note it will take a couple weeks for the Virtual Worship Planning Team to create content for the new Emmaus service. In the meantime, guidance for observing an Emmaus service will be provided in the January newsletter, and the morning service will be available on YouTube by 5:00 p.m. every Sunday. CHURCH OFFICE CLOSURE The church office will be closed Friday, December 25 in observance of Christmas Day and Friday, January 1 in observance of New Year’s Day. PASTOR DANIEL OUT OF OFFICE Pastor Daniel will be out of the office from Friday, December 25 through Monday, January 4. MEMBERS TEAM UPDATE Members Team is looking for a volunteer to replace Lin Hodkinson, who is leaving in December. I’m thankful for all her help this past year. This team is responsible for the Prayer Chain, the Caring Tree, the maintenance of church records and the member directory, the tracking of church attendance and time and talent surveys. Anyone interested in helping with this important ministry, please call Jayne Handley FELLOWSHIP UPDATE Farewell for Bruce and Lin Hodkinson: We will be having a drive-by farewell send off for Bruce and Lin Hodkinson on Dec. 19 from 2-4pm (See location below) followed by a special blessing on Sunday. They have recently retired and will be moving to California to start the next chapter of their lives! Both Lin and Bruce have been very active members of Peace for many years and have been involved with youth, mentoring, PPC, worship assistants and more. Bring a card and write in it a memory or even a thought of how they have touched your life. The drive-by farewell will take place in front of Sue and Bill Koenig's home, in Spring Grove. You will find them at the end of your Thursday email for worship. December Virtual Sunday School: Lessons are scheduled from 9:15-9:45 on December 20. We will be focusing on the Christmas story for the month of December. Future Sunday school lessons will take place on the first and third Sundays of the month with a meeting link sent on the Saturday prior to the lesson. On January 6th we will discuss the Bible study in the Gather Magazine and then on January 13th we will be discussing “Consider the Women” by Debbie Blue. Men of Peace! Looking for a way to connect with other guys in the congregation in our social distanced world? Join us at 8:00 am Saturday mornings at church for men’s Bible Study. And sports. And job stuff. SOCIAL OUTREACH UPDATES Update from St. Francis de Sales Food Pantry: We will continue to collect gift cards for this food pantry through Dec. 13. We are looking for grocery cards from Aldi, Target, Walmart, or Jewel in any amount. Food pantries continue to serve many more families than in the past due to the pandemics economic impact. If you prefer to donate goods, please check the St. Francis website for hours and requested items. Donations to the st. Francis food pantry can be dropped off at their ministry center(the old library), from 8-2pm, Monday to Friday, in the blue bin. Thank you. Lutheran Social Services Christmas Plans: Members of Peace have been supporting LSSI for many, many years and we will continue to do so again this year by providing gift cards from Target or Walmart for any amount. In years past, we donated gifts to the children in their day care programs or in foster care. This Christmas, LSSI will use the gift cards to help provide a happier Christmas for children enrolled in their programs. The need is great. Thank you for considering this ministry. Mission Projects Season: We are well underway in completing our usual projects done on Mission Projects Day (first Saturday in February in non-pandemic years!). We still have paracord bracelets that need to be assembled (contact Bill Walstrum if you would like a batch to do at home) and cards for hospitalized children (contact Sue Koenig if you would like the bin delivered to your home). Feel free to make more baby or health kits on your own for Lutheran World Relief if you would like and we will add them to our inventory to be sent off in February. We have reason to believe that Peace Lutheran Church was a target. Members have reported their offerings sent by mail have not been reflected in their giving statements. As a precaution, we are holding all mail at the post office until further notice. We need your help in determining if your offerings have been received. Please confirm that your offering checks are reflected properly on your giving statements. You may also consider reviewing your cancelled checks for endorsement anomalies. It is possible that commitment cards may have been taken and discarded as well. Please reach out to our finance team to confirm that your November and December offerings have been received along with your 2021 commitments.
