IMPORTANT UPDATES – WEEKLY CHANGES
Contents (scroll down for each): THIS WEEKEND - Saturday & Sunday Care and Concern Fellowship Faith Formation Now How to give your offering Youth Social Outreach THIS WEEKEND We welcome you to worship outside on Saturday, August 1, at 6:00pm. Communion will be celebrated at this worship service. This is Pastor Dale’s last worship service with us as interim pastor. The service will include a special litany of ‘farewell and godspeed’ as we bless one another for the future that lies before us! We will gather in accordance with all required safety protocols (see below). Saturday: What to expect for in-person communion Christ offers us his real presence in a multitude of ways, and in a plurality of places! In communion, however, his presence to us and for us is made so very clear. We will celebrate communion in a manner in which you can be assured you will receive the full blessing of the sacrament, and also safely participate in the midst of the current pandemic. We ask that you bring bread from home Prepare to bring a small portion of bread for you and your household. Carry it sealed with you to worship. In the communion service you will be invited to take it out, unwrap and hold it up during the prayer of consecration, and eat. Uneaten bread should return home with you to be consumed there. The cup while consecrated will not be served. This is in keeping with the tradition (may be unusual to us in modern times) of receiving communion in one kind (bread) instead of both kinds (bread and wine). We are assured in either manner that Christ gives himself fully to us and for us for the forgiveness of our sins, and sends us out to share his love with the world. In case you forget to bring bread, a limited number of individually wrapped gluten-free wafers will be available. Protocols to be respected at in-person worship: Please note the following protocols to be respected for all who are in attendance:

We will incorporate portions of our outdoor worship into the online worship service for your enjoyment. “ Five Thousand” poem by Stan Sanderson Five thousand gathered near Him, to hear what He would say; Ten thousand ears receiving the Master's words that day. Their eager souls were hungry And Jesus fed them well; The “Word Made Flesh” was filling, As all the Gospels tell. But with the eve approaching, A diff’rent hunger came, Their bellies started rumblin’, They had no food to claim. He said, “We have to feed them,” They said, “We have no food! Our loaves and two small fishes Won’t satisfy this crowd.” “Don’t worry, take it to them!” They shared their bread and fish; Twelve baskets were left over, All ate as much as wished. Our bodies and our spirits By God are both well-fed Rich gifts of love and mercy, Become our daily bread. CARE & CONCERN We pray for one another: We pray for those who need healing, safety and God’s watchful care. This week we pray for Mike Wilms, Sherri Juveland, Mike Tetour, Brad Baker, and Lizetta Moore. We welcome prayer requests. Let us remember to life up our needs, concerns, and joys – and those of others – in our prayer! Make your prayer request by emailing Pastor Dale pastor@peacelutheranlz.com or the church office office@peacelutheranlz.com . We care for one another: If you have any special need or know someone who does, reach out to the Caring Tree by contacting Jean Foltin or Pastor Dale. How are you doing – you, your family or household? Expect a phone, email or text. A CONNECTIONS TEAM of volunteers and staff are checking in with all Peace households. We are the church – connected! FELLOWSHIP Our playground has reopened. We are following the protocols being used by the LZ Parks and Recreation department, which is basically playing at your own risk. Based on information from the CDC and IPDH, the virus is killed by UV rays from the sun, so there is no need to sanitize the playground. We ask parents to monitor their kids while they play on the playground. Try to keep social distancing between kids of different families. Kids should be wearing masks if more than one family is on the playground. At this time we are not reopening the Music Wall or the basketball hoop. It is pretty impossible to social distance while doing both of those activities. Wine Women and Weeding. Come on over, and as we chat, weed, have a sip of wine and enjoy each other’s company. Every Wednesday at 6:00 at the Labyrinth. Brewing Questions is Back!: It's been a while since we have gathered for Brewing Questions, so let's do so....over Zoom! Everyone is welcome to join in for some great conversation, laughs and, of course, bring your beverage of choice. Our next Brewing Questions meeting will be on August 12th. If you are interested, please visit the virtual gathering section on PLC website home page for the Zoom link! ‘Secret Sister’ Update: We will be moving our Secret Sister Reveal until early fall. In the meantime, it is always good to pray and we hope you have kept your “Secret Sister” in your daily prayers. We would encourage you to use the old fashioned letter with a stamp to send a warm thought to your secret sister on a monthly basis or if you live close, you can drop them off a goodie in their mailbox. They may have guessed who you were, but if not, the fun will continue! At this time, if you pop in the church, please do not post any new notes on the bulletin board as it is not actively being monitored. Please reach out to Sherri Juveland and Sandy Hanna with any questions. Stay safe and enjoy these summer days! FAITH FORMATION NOW For Families with Children: Each Sunday you can access the Children’s Bulletin with activities that enable families to worship together and learn from each week’s Scripture theme. Access these resources at www.peacelutheranlz.com . Peace Lutheran’s VBS is happening!. We have 20 kids from 12 families joining together for fun and fellowship via Zoom and home crafts and activities. For adults: The Wednesday morning women’s bible study will be starting a new book on July 22 titled “The Misunderstood Jew” by Amy-Jill Levine. This Jewish author writes about the “Jewishness” of Jesus by looking at the stories of Jesus from a Jewish perspective. It promises to provoke honest conversations and debates about the relationship between Christians and Jews. Everyone is welcome to join us at 9am on Wednesday at church. If you have any questions you can contact Carol Wojnarowski at 847-540-8150. Men of Peace! Looking for a way to connect with other guys in the congregation in our social distanced world? Join us at 8:00 am Saturday mornings at church for men’s Bible Study. And sports. And job stuff. And whatever comes up! Looking forward to seeing new faces we haven’t seen in a while! The Labyrinth is open for your personal time of reflection and prayer. Access a daily 1-minute reading from the Psalms on the Peace Facebook page. If you missed last Sunday’s worship, go to www.peacelutheranlz.com to access at any time. HOW TO GIVE YOUR OFFERING Thank you! They will screen on one coach, and draw blood on the other coach. Face coverings are required. School Supply Drive: Thank you to everyone who has donated to the school supplies! We have a few items left: pencils, large glue sticks, and pointed tip scissors. All items should be delivered to the box outside the church by the end of the day on August 2nd. Thank you again for your generosity! You can continue to help: St. Francis and the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry continues to be very active among more clients with food insecurity. To help supply food for local people in need, look for the blue donation boxes at St. Francis church and the ministry center in LZ. They are taking non-perishable food, toilet paper, diapers and other paper products.
