THIS WEEKEND
Worship
Join us virtually for a Service of the Word Sunday, August 23. Watch your email on Sunday morning for the link to the YouTube video and script to join in worship, or find it online at www.peacelutheranlz.com.  As we worship in-our-own-homes this Sunday, consider where our world needs to be transformed by the love of God in Jesus Christ.
Virtual Coffee Hour:  Sunday, 10:00 a.m.
Virtual Coffee Hour each Sunday gives PLC a chance to check in with one another for hallway conversation, coffee room or narthex chit chat.  Come and stay as long as you like.  Get the link for Virtual Coffee Hour on PLC website www.peacelutheranlz.com

CARE & CONCERN
We pray for one another: We pray for those who need healing, safety and God’s watchful care.  This week we pray for Mike Wilms, Sherri Juveland, Mike Tetour, Brad Baker, and Lizetta Moore. We welcome prayer requests.  Let us remember to life up our needs, concerns, and joys – and those of others – in our prayer!  Make your prayer request by emailing Pastor Daniel  pastor@peacelutheranlz.com or the church office office@peacelutheranlz.com .
We care for one another: If you have any special needs or know someone who does, reach out to the Caring Tree by contacting Jean Foltin or Pastor Daniel.
How are you doing – you, your family or household?  Expect a phone, email or text.  A CONNECTIONS TEAM of volunteers and staff are checking in with all Peace households.  We are the church – connected!

He is also available at other times if needed. Please call in advance to schedule an appointment.

GETTING TO KNOW YOU
Pastor Daniel and his family are excited to get to know you and your family! Check back in the coming weeks for details about connecting with the Morris family.

FELLOWSHIP
Our playground has reopened.  We are following the protocols being used by the LZ Parks and Recreation department, which is basically playing at your own risk. Based on information from the CDC and IPDH, the virus is killed by UV rays from the sun, so there is no need to sanitize the playground.  We ask parents to monitor their kids while they play on the playground. Try to keep social distancing between kids of different families. Kids should be wearing masks if more than one family is on the playground.  At this time we are not reopening the Music Wall or the basketball hoop.  It is pretty impossible to social distance while doing both of those activities.
Wine Women and Weeding.  Come on over, and as we chat, weed, have a sip of wine and enjoy each other’s company.  Every Wednesday at 6:00 at the Labyrinth.
Brewing Questions is Back!: It's been a while since we have gathered for Brewing Questions, so let's do so....over Zoom! Everyone is welcome to join in for some great conversation, laughs and, of course, bring your beverage of choice. Our next Brewing Questions meeting will be on August 12th.   If you are interested, please visit the virtual gathering section on PLC website home page for the Zoom link!

‘Secret Sister’ Update:  We will be moving our Secret Sister Reveal until early fall.  In the meantime, it is always good to pray and we hope you have kept your “Secret Sister” in your daily prayers. We would encourage you to use the old fashioned letter with a stamp to send a warm thought to your secret sister on a monthly basis or if you live close, you can drop them off a goodie in their mailbox. They may have guessed who you were, but if not, the fun will continue!  At this time, if you pop in the church, please do not post any new notes on the bulletin board as it is not actively being monitored. Please reach out to Sherri Juveland and Sandy Hanna with any questions.  Stay safe and enjoy these summer days!

FAITH FORMATION NOW
For Families with Children:
Each Sunday you can access the Children’s Bulletin with activities that enable families to worship together and learn from each week’s Scripture theme. Access these resources at www.peacelutheranlz.com .
For adults:
The Wednesday morning women’s bible study will be starting a new book on July 22 titled “The Misunderstood Jew” by Amy-Jill Levine.  This Jewish author writes about the “Jewishness” of Jesus by looking at the stories of Jesus from a Jewish perspective.  It promises to provoke honest conversations and debates about the relationship between Christians and Jews.  Everyone is welcome to join us at 9am on Wednesday at church.  If you have any questions you can contact Carol Wojnarowski at 847-540-8150.
Men of Peace! Looking for a way to connect with other guys in the congregation in our social distanced world? Join us at 8:00 am Saturday mornings at church for men’s Bible Study. And sports. And job stuff. And whatever comes up! Looking forward to seeing new faces we haven’t seen in a while!
The Labyrinth is open for your personal time of reflection and prayer.
If you missed last Sunday’s worship, go to www.peacelutheranlz.com  to access at any time.

 HOW TO GIVE YOUR OFFERING
Thank you!  Thank you as you continue your generous contributions to the virtual offering plate we pass.  Congregation members are using these methods:  Mailing their check to church / Using their own bank website “send-payment” feature / Going to www.peacelutheranlz.com and clicking on “make a donation” / or, downloading and using the app we recommend: https://www.vancopayments.com/egiving/church-app

 YOUTH
Virtual Confirmation & Youth Group:  Tracy has set up weekly Zoom meetings so our teens can connect, talk and spend some time together while we are sheltered in place. The Virtual Youth Group will be held on Thursdays from 4-5pm and the Virtual Confirmation will be held on Thursdays from 7-8pm. Tracy will email and text the Zoom link and meeting code to each family on Wednesdays so everyone can participate!
It's Community Garden Time! The weather is (finally) starting to warm up, which means it is time to begin work on our community garden! We will be practicing and following our social distancing guidelines during this time and Tracy will be working with the Confirmands and High School students to determine times/what will be planted. Congregation members: If you would like to donate vegetable seeds for the garden, please let Tracy know!
Need school supplies?  For any families that reside in District 95 and are in need of school supplies, Joanie's Closet can help.  Contact them via their FB page for more information.

SOCIAL OUTREACH
School Supply Drive: A huge THANK YOU to all those who donated school supplies to the District 95 school supply drive.  We successfully filled the lists for 10 students and provided lots of extras to help fill in items for other grades.
Annual Blood Drive: Share in giving the gift of life! Please consider donating blood Sunday, September 13th. With a goal of collecting 25 units of blood, a Vitalant  Donor Coach (formerly Life Source) will be in the church parking lot between 7 am and 1 pm. To schedule an appointment please call Vitalant at 877.258.4825 or visit Vitalant.org and use group code: LZ50.  For those who cannot donate for Peace on September 13th, any Vitalant donor center may be visited on a different date. Using the group code(LZ50), donation credit will still be awarded to the church. Questions??? Contact Susan Sweeney at 847-533-9322 or  susansweeney627@aol.com. Thanks in advance for donating…by doing so you’ll save up to 3 lives!!!
Donor safety is a huge priority during this pandemic and Vitalant is taking extra precautions. To adhere to social distancing guidelines, they will actually bring two coaches. They will screen on one coach, and draw blood on the other coach.  Face coverings are required.
You can continue to help:  St. Francis and the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry continues to be very active among more clients with food insecurity. To help supply food for local people in need, look for the blue donation boxes at St. Francis church and the ministry center in LZ.  They are taking non-perishable food, toilet paper, diapers and other paper products.

Feed My Starving Children update: Peace has supported this ministry that is dedicated to providing nutritious meals for children worldwide for many years.  Because of Covid-19, their packing operations have been dramatically impacted while the need for food has grown enormously with hundreds of thousands facing the possibility of starvation. Reservations for small groups are now being taken at their packing facilities with the following new rules:

·       volunteer group size is limited to five people.  You will not be socially distanced from anyone you choose to sign up with.  You will be socially distanced from other groups in the packing room.
·       if you or anyone in your groups develops symptoms while packing, you and your entire group will be asked to leave immediately.
·       the packing setup has been changed to accommodate groups ranging in size from 1-5
·       the minimum volunteer age has been temporarily increased to age 10
·       if you are in a high risk category, please stay home
·       a reservation is required to pack
Although we will not be having a general signup for congregation members at this time, please consider having your small family group sign-up to serve. The need is great.  Go to www.fmsc.org to sign up.  Thank you!

Lutheran World Relief Update:  Another ministry that Peace has been a strong supporter of is Lutheran World Relief.  Each February, at our annual Mission Projects Day, we have made baby kits, school kits, health kits, fleece blankets and quilts for this organization.  On August 6th, in the devastating port explosion in Beirut, Lebanon, more than 150 people lost their lives, more than 5000 were injured and about 300,000 people are without shelter. Further impacting people in need, 3 40-ft shipping containers that were filled with humanitarian aid were also destroyed.  This shipment included 22,000 handmade quilts and baby kits, health kits and school supplies that were to go to refugees living in Lebanon.  The need is now greater than ever.  We are planning to have Mission Day on Feb. 6 at Peace in some capacity depending on the social gathering restrictions that are in place at that time.  If you would like to help now, please consider making a donation online to https://lwr.org/beirut or mail your donation to Lutheran World Relief, PO Box 17061, Baltimore, MD 21297-1061.  If you would like to purchase items that we can use in school kits, baby kits or health kits, please contact Sue Koenig or see the LWR.org site to see a supply list.  If you are interested in making a quilt top and need squares to sew together, also contact Sue Koenig.  Thank you for your help!
