8am Service of Holy Communion
9:15am Congregational Meeting in Sanctuary / Sunday School
10:30am Service of Holy Communion
Congregational Meeting: This Sunday, January 26, at 9:15am. The purpose of this meeting is to review PLC ministries, open nominations for leadership positions, receive an update from Call Committee, and approve PLC financials and budget for 2020. Please plan to attend.
Join the journey of TOUCHSTONES FOR OUR FUTURE. See bulletin insert for this week’s take-home devotion and “Question of the Week” – bring back your response and place in the offering plate next Sunday.
Welcome to the Lord’s Table: Holy Communion is open to all who have been baptized. We receive God's grace through this Sacrament as a free gift, not because of our worthiness or accomplishments. Thus even young children come to the Table, after parents have initial visit with the pastor. When you come to the Table, you may ask for gluten-free wafer, and choose between wine (red) or grape juice (gold). Open your hands to receive the bread, or come forward simply for a blessing. We join hands as we are dismissed from the Table.
Red Friendship Folders: During the offering the ushers distribute the red friendship folders. We invite all to take a moment to ‘sign in.’ If you’re visiting would you provide your address too? Thank you! When everybody in your row has signed in, pass the folder back – but take time to look! Meet someone new!
Pastoral Care: If you are in need of pastoral care while Pastor Dale is away this week, please call Peace office 847-438-4400 for Deacon Tracy Katschke, or Pastoral Lohafer 847-358-4600.
We pray for one another: We pray for those who need healing and wholeness. This week we pray for Mike Wilms. If you know of someone for whom you would like prayers, make your request known to pastor or complete a prayer request located in the hallway immediately next to the church office door. We care for one another: If you have any special need or know someone who does (e.g. dinner for new moms, meals after hospitalization, short term help like lawn cutting or snow removal) reach out to the Caring Tree by contacting Jean Foltin or Pastor Dale.
The PLC Pastoral Call Committee is made up of Ben Dahlke, Lin Hodkinson, Tim Harris, Liz Hopman, Samantha Rozema, Nicole Thurow, Grace Trumbull. Each member is accessible to the congregation; you can reach the whole team with any correspondence at email@example.com .
This Sunday (January 26): Read Matthew 6:19-33. In this section of his Sermon on the Mount Jesus describes God’s ever present support for our daily needs. He says to us: “strive first for the kingdom of God” and all the things we need will be provided! Let us hold this front and center for our personal lives as well as for our church as we live into a new year and approach a new future at Peace Lutheran Church!
Looking ahead to next Sunday (February 2): Read Micah 6:1-8. This Old Testament prophet was concerned that God’s people were going off the rails. He recounts all that God has done for them, and still they’ve become distracted. They have abandoned the mission that was given them from the beginning: “I will bless you… so that you will be a blessing ‘Genesis 12:2). At any time, and especially in a time of transition, we as a congregation want to stay focused on the heart of our mission. Especially in a constantly changing world we’ll want to “keep the main thing the main thing.”
Guest speaker next Sunday (January 26): Ms. Kristen Opalinski serves as Manager for Ecumenical and Inter-Religious Relations in the office of the Presiding Bishop at the ELCA Lutheran Center in Chicago. In this role she helps cultivate relationships among Christian and inter-religious partners, working in areas of shared ministry. She will bring her experience from around the globe to stimulate our vision of a church connected. Plan to attend Adult Ed session at 9:15am – led by our guest Ms. Kristen Opalinski.
This week indicates a change to the format of PRINTS OF PEACE. The weekly green bulletin insert will contain current announcements and information that you will want to know about. In addition, a monthly PRINTS OF PEACE PLUS will keep us informed and connected around ongoing opportunities. The Prints of Peace Plus will be available to pick up on any Sunday from the table in the narthex. It will also be posted on the Peace website: PeaceLutheranLZ.com. These publications help all stay connected, informed and involved! Please note that Prayer Requests sheets will always be located now right under the Prayer Requests box by the church office door. Let us remember to lift up the needs, concerns, and joys of others in our weekly prayers!
Spaghetti Dinner and Auction: Saturday, March 7th! The teens from Peace Lutheran, Christ Lutheran and St. Peter UCC will be embarking on their mission trip to Knoxville, Tennessee in July of 2020! In preparation for their mission trip, we will once again be hosting the Holy Spaghetti Dinner and Auction! This is an event that you will NOT want to miss!
Mission Projects Day: Please plan on attending our 12th annual mission projects day on Feb. 1. The event will start at 9:00am. You can stay as long as you wish but we are typically finished by noon that day. We will be doing service projects for lots of different non-profits so we know you can find something you will like to do. Invite a friend or two-many hands make the work easier and more fun!! Children are welcome with adult supervision. There is no charge for this event. If you have any questions, please call Sue Koenig or Sandy Hanna.
First Aid and CPR: Due to the weather we had to cancel the class on Jan 18 and has been rescheduled for March 28, 9 - 2 Please plan to attend as we would like to have as many people from Peace trained in these areas as possible. This class is open from teenagers to all adults and friends can also sign up. If you have questions, please call Sue Koenig.
Coins for Change: Our bottle was filled! We raised $205 to go to PADS of Lake County Crisis Services. PADS has many programs to address homelessness in our area and has been an organization that Peace has supported in a variety of ways for many years. The empty bottle is back in the narthex and we can start the refilling process! Please bring spare coins (or dollars!) whenever you can and just place them in the bottle! Thank you!
Adult Mission Trip: The informational meeting for the adult mission trip will be on Feb. 9 starting at 12:15 at Living Lord Lutheran Church in Bartlett, our mission trip partnering church. Please attend if you want to learn more about the trip (to help with flood recovery) in Wisconsin from June 21-27. All adults are welcome. A non-refundable $25 will be collected at this time to reserve your spot. If you have any questions please see Sue or Bill Koenig
