THIS SUNDAY
A couple weeks ago the big tent was erected for outdoor worship. The weather was iffy, the wind took a hit at it when a storm came close in the afternoon, but it stood fast during the service. We could say that life at Peace Lutheran Church in the middle of 2020 is like putting up a tent in extremely iffy weather, or to be more accurate, in a pandemic windstorm! Jesus used many images and illustrations to describe life under God’s reign. Many times living under God’s reign is like putting up a tent in a windstorm. You are living it now - and by God’s help succeeding!  Don’t miss worship-in-your-own-home this Sunday! Watch for the email early Sunday morning, or go to the PLC website to access the worship script and YouTube video.

PLANNING FOR OUTDOOR IN-PERSON WORSHIP IN AUGUST
Building on the safe and successful outdoor in-person worship on July 11, there will be outdoor in-person worship two times per month while the weather permits. Please note the following protocols to be respected for all who are in attendance:
  • Facial coverings required at all times on church property, both outside and inside
  • Social distancing between families
  • Bring your own chairs or blankets
  • If inclement weather, you will be notified by telephone with a postcall, email and website message
Please join us at Peace for the following two special outdoor worship events:
  • Saturday August 1st at 6pm
    • Pr Dale's last worship service with us as interim pastor
    • Communion in-kind (bring your own bread)
  • Saturday August 15th at 6pm
    • Pr Daniel's first worship service with us as our new pastor
    • Communion in-kind (bring your own bread)
For those members who are uncomfortable returning to in-person worship, we will continue a full and rich online worship in-your-own-home every Sunday. We will incorporate portions of our outdoor worship into the online worship service for your enjoyment.

CARE & CONCERN
We pray for one another: We pray for those who need healing, safety and God’s watchful care.  This week we pray for Mike Wilms, Sherri Juveland, Mike Tetour, Brad Baker, and Lizetta Moore. We welcome prayer requests.  Let us remember to life up our needs, concerns, and joys – and those of others – in our prayer!  Make your prayer request by emailing Pastor Dale  pastor@peacelutheranlz.com or the church office office@peacelutheranlz.com .
We care for one another: If you have any special need or know someone who does, reach out to the Caring Tree by contacting Jean Foltin or Pastor Dale.
How are you doing – you, your family or household?  Expect a phone, email or text.  A CONNECTIONS TEAM of volunteers and staff are checking in with all Peace households.  We are the church – connected!
FELLOWSHIP
Brewing Questions is Back!: It's been a while since we have gathered for Brewing Questions, so let's do so....over Zoom! Everyone is welcome to join in for some great conversation, laughs and, of course, bring your beverage of choice. Our next Brewing Questions meeting will be in August.   If you are interested, please visit the virtual gathering section on PLC website home page for the Zoom link!

‘Secret Sister’ Update:  We will be moving our Secret Sister Reveal until early fall.  In the meantime, it is always good to pray and we hope you have kept your “Secret Sister” in your daily prayers. We would encourage you to use the old fashioned letter with a stamp to send a warm thought to your secret sister on a monthly basis or if you live close, you can drop them off a goodie in their mailbox. They may have guessed who you were, but if not, the fun will continue!  At this time, if you pop in the church, please do not post any new notes on the bulletin board as it is not actively being monitored. Please reach out to Sherri Juveland and Sandy Hanna with any questions.  Stay safe and enjoy these summer days!

FAITH FORMATION NOW
For Families with Children:
Each Sunday you can access the Children’s Bulletin along with activities that enable families to worship together and learn from each week’s Scripture theme. Access these resources at www.peacelutheranlz.com .

Peace Lutheran’s VBS will commence.  We have 20 kids from 12 families joining together for fun and fellowship via Zoom and home crafts and activities.

For adults:
Book Discussion during Virtual Coffee Hour of Dear Church: A Love Letter from a Black Preacher to the Whitest Denomination in the U.S. We begin at 10am by checking in, and then proceed to discussion. This week concludes the book study with chapters 10-11. Access the link to the live Zoom coffee hour on the PLC website www.peacelutheranlz.com .
The Wednesday morning women’s bible study will be starting a new book on July 22 titled “The Misunderstood Jew” by Amy-Jill Levine.  This Jewish author writes about the “Jewishness” of Jesus by looking at the stories of Jesus from a Jewish perspective.  It promises to provoke honest conversations and debates about the relationship between Christians and Jews.  Everyone is welcome to join us at 9am on Wednesday at church.  If you have any questions you can contact Carol Wojnarowski at 847-540-8150.
Men of Peace! Looking for a way to connect with other guys in the congregation in our social distanced world? Join us at 8:00 am Saturday mornings at church for men’s Bible Study. And sports. And job stuff. And whatever comes up! Looking forward to seeing new faces we haven’t seen in a while!
The Labyrinth is open for your personal time of reflection and prayer.
Access a daily 1-minute reading from the Psalms on the Peace Facebook page.
If you missed last Sunday’s worship, go to www.peacelutheranlz.com  to access at any time.

 YOUTH
Virtual Confirmation & Youth Group:  Tracy has set up weekly Zoom meetings so our teens can connect, talk and spend some time together while we are sheltered in place. The Virtual Youth Group will be held on Thursdays from 4-5pm and the Virtual Confirmation will be held on Thursdays from 7-8pm. Tracy will email and text the Zoom link and meeting code to each family on Wednesdays so everyone can participate!
It's Community Garden Time! The weather is (finally) starting to warm up, which means it is time to begin work on our community garden! We will be practicing and following our social distancing guidelines during this time and Tracy will be working with the Confirmands and High School students to determine times/what will be planted. Congregation members: If you would like to donate vegetable seeds for the garden, please let Tracy know!
Need school supplies?  For any families that reside in District 95 and are in need of school supplies, Joanie's Closet can help.  Contact them via their FB page for more information.https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040D4CACA722A4FF2-school

Workers for Meal Support: A Big Thank You for all the workers, 20 in all, both adults and youth, who showed up on a toasty Sunday to help a couple of people in our congregation do some outside work around their homes. Lots of things were fixed, trimmed and weeded and it was nice to catch up from a safe distance with others from our church.  We are looking for more work for our group to do for another work day in July/August.  We can do weeding, grass cutting, mulch laying, outside painting, etc. so if you need some help around your house or have a friend, neighbor or relative in the Lake Zurich area that would like to be considered for our work day, please reach out to Sue or Bill Koenig.  The person having the work done will pay for any necessary supplies but nothing for the labor that is provided.  If you would like to make a donation to the Meal Support fundraiser for Mike Wilms that is always an option but is not required.  A Thrivent Action Team has provided seed money for this project.  Thank you to all!

Next Mobile Food Pantry:  The next Mobile Food Pantry will be held at the Chapel in Lake Zurich on July 25 and will start at 10am and end at 11:30.  If you are interested in helping with the food distribution please go to: https:11www.signupgenius/com/go/10C04DAAA723AAFD0-mobile34.  You will need to bring and wear a mask while volunteering. If you are in need of food or know of someone who is, please plan to attend. If you have any questions, please contact Ken Rasbid at the Chapel or Sue Koenig at Peace.

You can continue to help:  St. Francis and the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry continue to be very active among more clients with food insecurity. To help supply food for local people in need, look for the blue donation boxes at St. Francis church and the ministry center in LZ.  They are taking non-perishable food, toilet paper, diapers and other paper products.
