Prints of Peace - July 28, 2019

"into the Spider-Verse"... "Jurassic world" ..."a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..." -- these are familiar references to other worlds created in Hollywood.  And there's "The Matrix" and of course the whole series of Marvel movies too!  This Sunday at Peace, in Jesus' prayer (Luke 11:1-13) we are introduced to another world: Jesus invites us to ask for God's World to come to us and into our world. He invites us to pray, "Thy kingdom come."  Another world? Breaking in here?  Now?  Really?  Indeed it is really real.  It's a whole New World.  Come and see!
Worship Schedule: The service of Holy Communion is our summer schedule at 9:00 a.m.
Pastoral Care: Pastor Dale Ziemer is available to respond to all pastoral needs.  You can reach him by the church phone 847-438-4400, where he checks messages regularly if not in the office.  You may contact him via email at pastor@peacelutheranlz.com .
Reading for next week (August 4):  Luke 12:13-21. According to nearly every survey on the topic, arguments about money have the dubious honor of being the number one source of conflict between married people.  Jesus is approached by one whose family was troubled by finances. Jesus re-frames the conversation.  Wow!  Real lessons for life here!  Read in the Lutheran Study Bible and brief commentary if you can make the time this week.
Adult Education: On break for summer. We will resume in September.  Please pull Pastor Dale aside to share ideas and thoughts about “adult education” for the fall.
Attendance: On July 21, 2019 78 attended service. On July 24, 2019, 13 attended service at Lexington.
Prayer Requests: We pray for those who need healing and wholeness: for Tod Kunschke, Kristen Jorgensen, Joyce Smith, Greg, Larry, Judy Riley, Gabriel Salami, Mike Wilms, Kevin Foley, Rob Olsen, Warren Heuck and Anita Brazeau. Our practice is we will pray for an individual for at least 4 Sundays or until the end of the following month. After that time, we ask that you contact the office to keep your loved one on the prayer list. If a loved one inadvertently falls off the prayer list, please request to put this person back on the list. Thank you. We need pray-ers! If you would like to be a participant in the Circle of Prayer, please contact Terry Koncel at peaceprays@mail.com.
Church Administrator: Allison Hearst is our church administrator. She works Tuesday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. One of the many things Allison is in charge of is the church calendar. She can be reached at 847-438-4400 or  peacelzoffice@yahoo.com
Cords of Wood: There is firewood available for free-will donations.  It’s stacked over by the labyrinth.  See Mike Rojek or Beth Piff for details.
Pastoral Transition:  We celebrated farewell and Godspeed to Pastor Mark and his family at the end of June.  While it would not be appropriate to call on him any longer for any pastoral services, we do continue to give thanks for his ministry among us.  These wonderful words were inscribed on the plaque presented to him:
Pastor Mark Sundberg,
You have served the Lord with gladness -
tirelessly, faithfully, and with great compassion.
You have given hope and encouragement to many.
Your presence in the lives of others has truly made a difference.
Now, as the day dawns on the next chapter in your life,
May God continue to richly bless you and watch over you.
May the God of peace grant you peace now and always.
With great affection and gratitude,
From your family here at Peace Lutheran                                                                                                June 2019

Social Outreach
LSSI School Supplies Needed:  Believe it or not it is time to gather school supplies for LSSI for the School Year 2019-2020. We are putting together backpacks filled with supplies for  30 children!  There is a sign up sheet in the narthex, on the bulletin board, of the items that we need.  All items need to be at church by July 28.  Place the items in the bin under the sign up sheet.  Please see Donna Walstrum with any questions. Thank you for helping the children get a good start to the new school year.  It is very much appreciated.
Hospice Kit:  Thank you to all who helped assemble the hospice kits for Global Health Ministries last Sunday.  With so many people helping we had the 35 kits put together in no time!! We will be rolling bandages for this nonprofit at Mission Projects day 2020-Feb. 1, 2020 so plan on helping then too!
Annual Blood Drive: Share in giving the gift of life! Please consider signing up to donate blood Sunday, September 8th. With a goal of collecting 25 units of blood, a Vitalant  Donor Coach (formerly Life Source) will be in the church parking lot that day between 7 am and 1 pm, making it very convenient to donate before, during or after church!  To schedule an appointment please call Vitalant at 877.258.4825 or visit Vitalant.org and use group code: LZ50.  There is also a signup sheet in the narthex.  For those who cannot donate for Peace on September 8th, any Vitalant donor center may be visited on a different date. By using the group code assigned to Peace (LZ50), donation credit will still be awarded to the church. Questions??? Contact Susan Sweeney at susansweeney627@aol.com. Thanks in advance for donating…by doing so you’ll save up to 3 lives!!!
Mission Projects Day 2020:  It's hard to believe, but yes, we are already starting the preparation work for this event next February.  There are school bags to be sewn and can be found in the hallway.  Just take what you want and bring them back by December.  Soon there will be hospice pillows to be sewn too.  Keep you eye out for school, health and baby related items being on sale to go in the kits that we make.  You can find a full list of what items we can use by going to www.lwr.org and look under "getting involved", then "quilts and kits". There are now sign up sheets in the hallway for the items that will be needed for the baby, school and health kits that we make for Lutheran World Relief at Mission Projects Day.  Sign up for as many items as you would like and bring them back to church no later that December 29, 2019.  It's a great time to buy things at reduced prices (for the school kits) and you can always use your special dollars back rewards you get at stores like Kohls, Penney's or Old Navy to get items for the baby kits.  Thank you one and all!  Please call Sue Koenig if you have any questions about items.
Ongoing Opportunities
Simply Giving: Many of our members and friends give with Simply Giving automated debit. This program is very important for our congregation. It keeps income steady during the summer months when giving drops because people are out of town. Please consider it! Giving forms are on the table in the narthex. If you do participate in Simply Giving, or if you do not have an offering on a particular Sunday you can still participate in the act of giving during the service by obtaining Giving Acknowledgment card from an usher and placing it in the offering plate to acknowledge your support of our ministries at Peace.
On-Line Giving: You now have the option to make a gift to Peace from your computer, tablet or phone! To give online go to the Peace web site www.PeaceLutheranLZ.com and click on the "Make a Donation" button. To give from your phone, download the Give Plus Church app and search for Peace in Lake Zurich to make your gift. Finally, to give from your phone without downloading the “Give Plus Church” app just text a gift to the Peace text number, 224-458-2996. Just enter an amount and send the text to the Peace number and you will be sent a link to complete the transaction. See Kirk Swanson if you have any questions.
Caring Tree: This outreach ministry provides services to those in the congregation with special need, i.e., dinners for new moms, meals for those following a hospitalization, or short term help with lawn cutting or snow removal. Please contact Jean Foltin or Pastor Dale with requests for assistance. Jean may be reached by email (jfoltin5@comcast.net).
Altar Flowers: If you have a special date you would like to remember, please consider bringing flowers for our Sunday services. The calendar is on the bulletin board in the hallway. Vases are available for use in the kitchen cabinet behind the door. Flowers should be set out before the first service and can be picked up any time after the second service. Enter your first name on the calendar, as we have several families with the same last name. Any questions, please contact Jean Foltin.
Wednesday Morning Women’s Bible Study: We meet at Panera Bread in Deer Park at 9:00 a.m.  Anyone is welcome to join us for coffee.
