Prints of Peace - March 22

+++  Health and Safety Update  +++

In a very short period of time, we have had to make drastic changes in our congregation practices.  We did not expect or want this, but we are here now.  We are following common sense procedures required of us and the wider human community in a time of impending medical crisis.  All PLC gatherings including Sunday worship are cancelled through March 30, but this situation is evolving daily.  Our faith is being stretched to grow as we seek God’s presence and guidance in a time of high uncertainty. And our congregational life is being stretched to learn new ways to reach out, connect, support, encourage and help one another.  Whether face-to-face or apart, we are church together!
This Sunday – All worship, education, and fellowship gatherings are cancelled

Last weekend, an early Sunday morning email to all PLC email list was sent with resources to conduct your worship experience at home.  At the time of this writing, we are putting together resources that you can access electronically for Sunday, March 22.  Please watch your email inbox.  Tap into these resources created just for you for such a time as this.  Resources for children will be included!

Have a comment or question for the Pastoral Call Committee? You can reach them by email at callcommittee@peacelutheranlz.com

We pray for one another: We pray for those who need healing and wholeness.  This week we pray for Mike Wilms and al who are grieving, especially for the family of Jean Hawkins, sister of Carol Wojnarowski, who passed away last week. May all who mourn be comforted by the promise of eternal life.   ….. We welcome prayer requests.  Let us remember to life up our needs, concerns, and joys – and those of others – in our prayer!  Make your prayer request by emailing to Pastor Dale pastor@peacelutheranlz.com or the church office office@peacelutheranlz.com .

We care for one another: Can you help?   Many families are stressed with the required changes in their daily schedule and responsibilities. Some are isolated. Others will need assistance. BUT some of us may have a little extra time on our hands, and we each have some gifts to share.  WOULD YOU HELP?  Here are the kinds of help needed:  Make check-in telephone calls to members. Make a trip to the grocery store or pharmacy. Child care support. Ideas and activities for kids. Help with elders. Pray. Or help to organize a “phone-or-text” tree to help us all stay in touch. What gifts, abilities or interests do you have that could benefit others? Contact Pastor Dale 847-438-4400 (847-971-3447 cell).
If you have any special need or know someone who does reach out to the Caring Tree by contacting Jean Foltin or Pastor Dale.

This Sunday (March 22) Scripture Reflection: The familiar words of Amazing Grace ring through the reading John 9:1-41.  You can hear it in the background as you discover afresh the narrative of Jesus’  healing of a man born blind: “…I once was lost, but now I’m found; was blind but now I see.”   Do you know this one who can heal and restore our lives?

Next Sunday (March 29) Scripture Reflection: John 11:1-45. This narrative describes the context for one of Jesus’ most profound miracles, the raising of Lazarus from death. Jesus, after long-distance correspondence with Lazarus’ family (his BFFs), and after arriving at the scene to meet up with his grieving friends, he is brought to the tomb where Lazarus is laid.  There, Jesus wept.  A most compelling moment in this story, and insight into who Jesus is FOR YOU, and how Jesus is FOR YOU.  He is a dearest friend, who can identify with the griefs, stresses, crises, and troubles YOU experience.  While we are not able these days to take communion at church and hear the words, “Given and shed FOR YOU,” please be assured every day and every moment Jesus is FOR YOU… his body broken FOR you and his blood shed FOR YOU.

Adult Education this Sunday @ 9:15am: “A New Family: Opening the Doors of the Church” is on hold.  Brief video by Rachel Held Evans followed by questions for personal reflection. How do we reach the outsider, hear their voice, and bring their perspective into the fold?  Join in this Sunday, listening, learning, sharing, and exploring faith together.   This week’s video will be accessible electronically for all who wish to view.

How to give your offering now?  The work of our church goes on as we learn how to operate in a “new normal” for now.  We ARE the church in all circumstances.  If you give your offering at worship, please continue your generous financial support by one of these options:  mailing your offerings to the church office;  use your bank website “send-payment” feature; go to PLC website www.peacelutheranlz.com and click on “make a donation;” or download and use the app we recommend:  https://www.vancopayments.com/egiving/church-app

Social Outreach
How will we serve our neighbor now?
Please check with team lead to confirm activities

With the crisis all around us, this is not the time to put our social outreach on the back burner.  Let us all look to create new ways to maintain connection in this time of isolation. Keep this at the very forefront of your mind.  Think of your neighbors, those you know by name, those you normally meet daily or weekly.  Think of every person you meet up with on Sunday, every hand you shake, and now turn it into a check-in by phone, text or email instead.  Every manner of touch that we should now avoid can become instead a verbal expression of warmth and concern. Reach out, let them know they are not alone.  Please keep social outreach on your mind.
Lou Malnatis coupons are still available.  You can pay for them later.  Call, text or email Sue Koenig for more information

Secret Sister Luncheon/Reveal: The sign-up sheet is on the Social Outreach board.  The possible dates are Sunday, 26th OR May 3rd.  We would appreciate if you could indicate ALL times that would work for you by placing an “X” in the box.  We will schedule the date around when a majority of the participants can attend.  Once we determine a date over the next several weeks, we will share more information about the event.  It will be scheduled for 2 hours and location is TBD.

Easter Baskets:  We are collecting bags of jelly beans and small chocolate bunnies for 40 children being served through Intact South, a program that supports families dealing with mental health or substance abuse issues.  A sign up sheet is located in the Narthex.  Items can be placed  in the bin in the Narthex and need to be at church by April 5th.  Thank you so much for you continued support of this yearly outreach project!

Mobile Food Pantry at the Chapel in Lake Zurich: will be Saturday, March 14th.  If you would like to volunteer, please use the link below. Thanks for making a difference! If you or someone you know needs food, please plan to attend this event between 10:00 - 12:00
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4DAAA723AAFD0-mobile31

First Aid and CPR: Due to the weather we had to cancel the class on Jan 18 and has been rescheduled for March 28, 9 - 2  Please plan to attend as we would like to have as many people from Peace trained in these areas as possible. This class is open from teenagers to all adults and friends can also sign up.  If you have questions, please call Sue Koenig.

Feed My Starving Children Event:  Please sign up and join us in packing food at the Feed My Starving Children event on May 9th from 9-11 am at the Libertyville location. There is a sign-up sheet in the hallway for the 25 spots that we have reserved. Feel free to invite a friend.  You must be at least 5 years old with an adult to attend and you should plan on removing all jewelry prior to our packing session.  Maybe this would be a fun activity for your family in honor of Mother's Day which will be the next day! Please call Sue Koenig with any questions.
Adult Mission Trip: Trip-We will be going to Wisconsin June 21-27 to help rebuild homes effected by severe flooding in 2018.  A $25 non-refundable deposit is now due to reserve your spot.  We have 35 spots reserved. Make your check out to Living Lord Lutheran Church with adult mission trip in the memo section.  You can send it to Lynn Marinelli at Living Lord or just put the check in an envelope and place it in the adult mission trip mail slot in the office at Peace. If you are able to help sell Lou Malnati's pizza coupons for our upcoming fund raiser, please let Sue Koenig know when you are available or sign up for a time on the sign-up sheet in the before mentioned mail slot.  We will be selling the coupons before and after each service starting on March 15 and ending April 5. Other dates to keep in mind are:  Culver's Fund Raiser in Lake Zurich on April 20 and team building has been canceled.  Final payment of $100 and your skill assessments are due at that time. Please call Sue Koenig if you have any questions.
