Lent Suppers and Services: Please make Wednesday night part of your Lenten schedule. Soup Suppers are at 6:00 p.m. (please sign up in the hallway to bring something,) and services are at 7:00p.m. We will sing the beautiful Holden Evening Prayer, and we will consider a part of Luther’s Small Catechism each week. The service will be done by 7:30. The dates are March 8, 15, 22, 29, and April 4. Join us!

Reading for Next Week:  Please read John chapter 3 and the sidebar notes for this chapter in your Lutheran Study Bible (LSB.) This is certainly one of the most important chapters in the Bible for Christians. Jesus speaks in symbolic language about baptism here. The sidebar notes have important material to understand this chapter. If you don’t yet have a LSB, see Pastor Mark.

Youth
Confirmation Ministry: Just a reminder to fill out service points forms, which can be found on the table in the narthex. You can receive points for acolyting, assisting in the nursery, etc. The sky is the limit!

Confirmation Class Schedule: Confirmation classes will break for the Lenten season starting Wednesday, March 1st. We will not resume classes until Wednesday, April 19th.

Tracy is engaged at Peace half-time, and her office hours are Monday-Thursday,  1:30pm-5:30pm. She can be reached on her cell for urgent matters. Her cell phone can be accessed by calling church.

Events

The cost will be $5.00 for all material. Bring your machine (if you have one) and cutting utensils. Any questions call Carol Wojnarowski or Allison
Hearst.

Adult Mission Trip 2017. This year, Peace Lutheran and Living Lord churches will again be joining forces to help those impacted by natural disasters. June 11-17 we will be serving in the greater Detroit area damaged by flooding in both 2014 and 2016. Community service and construction project opportunities will be available. Don’t miss this impactful, rewarding experience. Family and friends are welcome to join the mission trip, you do not have to be a member of either church, you simply need to want to serve.  At the meeting a nonrefundable deposit of $25 made out to Living Lord Lutheran Church reserves your spot. Final payments won't be due until May. To sign up or for more information, please contact Lia Brilando at lbrilando22@gmail.com or by phone at 847-287-1960. lbrilando22@gmail.com or by phone at 847-287-1960.

Adult Mission Trip Fundraiser- One of our favorite fundraisers will be starting on March 5! It's the Lou Malnati's Pizza Coupon Sale! We will be selling these coupons before and after services throughout the month of March.  The coupons sell for $13 and are good for a 9" frozen pizza (sausage, pepperoni, cheese, veggie or spinach) at any area Lou Malnati's location. Orders will be taken for the coupons throughout the month of March and the coupons will delivered mid April.  The money raised from this fundraiser will be used to offset costs for the adult mission trip to Detroit, June11-17, 2017.

Chamber of Commerce Expo:  Peace Lutheran Church will be at this year’s Chamber of Commerce Showcase Saturday March 11th, at LZHS from 9:30-3:00pm.  We are very excited about the opportunity to share information about our children and family programs along with our Lent and Easter Services. If you would like to join us for an hour or so on Saturday or help with set up Friday night, please talk to Natalie Trumbull or Beth Piff and sign up on our Volunteer Sign Poster in the Narthex this morning.

Would you like to be more involved at Peace Lutheran? : Every year our church appoints a Nominating Committee whose task is to fill leadership vacancies within the church governance for the upcoming year. This year’s Committee has been formed and is currently reaching out to church members to fill open positions, but we could use more help. Knowing that not everyone is familiar with the elected positions and ministry teams here at Peace, we have placed a copy of the churches’ By-Laws in the narthex for all to view. Among other things, the By-Laws contain basic descriptions of the governance structure and duties of the ministry teams. One reference copy of the By-Laws has been placed into a binder that is located on the table adjacent to the sanctuary. Please take a moment to review the descriptions to see if you have interest in any of the positions. If you have a desire to serve, or if you have questions about any of the open positions, please contact Tom Kunschke (tkunschke@hotmail.com).

Ongoing Opportunities
Altar Flowers: If you have a special date you would like to remember, please consider bringing flowers for our Sunday services. The calendar is on the bulletin board outside of the office. Vases are available for use in the kitchen cabinet behind the door. Flowers should be set out before the Sunday service and can be picked up any time after the Sunday service. Enter your first name on the calendar, as we have several families with the same last name. Any questions, please call Kari Mrazek at (847) 726-2716.

Servant Opportunity: We need someone to be point person for Amazon Smiles. This is a great program to raise money for our youth ministry by having our parishioners do their Amazon purchasing through Amazon Smiles. The responsibilities would include quarterly tracking of income, and occasional announcements.

Servant Opportunity: We are looking for someone to lead “Open Hands, Open Hearts,” which helps a congregation consider what it needs to do to strengthen how it educates/cultivates generosity as an outgrowth of Christian life. All settings of congregational life are examined, with a view to also determine what the congregation is willing to do to make any changes. This person would work with consultant Mark Vincent, who works with churches in groups through Facebook. Our volunteer would need to be Facebook savvy, and have an interest in stewardship. This is a wonderful opportunity for our congregation. Please let Pastor Mark or Cathy Malloy know if you are interested.

Adult Choir: Come join us to sing and have fun. No audition necessary, just a willing heart and a love for music. We are meeting on Thursday nights this year at 7:30 p.m. Jeff Horvath will be directing. Please join us!

Helen Handley is the coordinator for the Caring Tree. The Caring Tree provides services to those in our congregation with special needs, i.e. dinners for new moms, meals for those who have been hospitalized, short term help with lawn needs or snow shoveling, etc.  Please contact Helen or Pastor Mark if you have a need you think the Caring Tree might be able to help with. Helen's email is helenhandley@gmail.com

Adult Forum: Please join us this morning, morning at 9:15, as we begin a new video series about the book of Revelation called “Is This the Time: Interpreting the Mystery of Revelation.” The video presenter is Dr. Craig, Koester, a dynamic presenter. After each video presentation, discussion will follow. All are welcome.

Simply Giving: Many of our members and friends give by Simply Giving automated debit. This program has no fees for you or our congregation. This program is very important for our congregation. It keeps income steady during the summer months when giving drops because of people being out of town. Please consider it! If you do participate in Simply Giving, when you worship please grab a Giving Acknowledgment Card from an usher in order to physically fulfill the act of giving during the offertory. There are forms on the table in the narthex.

Pastor Mark’s Day Off: Monday is Pastor’s day off. He does not check church voice mail or Email that day. He can be reached at home for urgent matters. Please contact him for non-urgent matters Tuesday through Sunday. His cell phone number can be accessed by calling church.

Giving Acknowledgment Cards:  If you participate in the Simply Giving program or if you do not have an offering on a particular Sunday; you can still participate in the act of giving during the service.  Ask an usher for a small laminated Giving Acknowledgement Card before you enter the sanctuary.  You can then place the card in the offering plate to acknowledge your support of our ministries at Peace.

Prayer Requests: We pray for those who need healing and wholeness: for Bonnie Eckardt, Kristen Jorgensen, Rose Albanese, Dan Olson, Annette Dick and Margaret Sherman-Piercy.  Our practice is we will pray for an individual for at least 4 Sundays or until the end of the following month. After that time, we ask that you contact the office or Pastor Mark to keep your loved one on the prayer list. If your loved one inadvertently falls off the prayer list, please request to put this person back on the list. Thank you.) We need pray-ers! If you would like to be a participant in the Circle of Prayer, please contact Terry Koncel.

Inspirational Messages: Pastor Mark would like to reach out to the congregation with a brief message a couple times per week. If you want to receive these, please fill out the form in the red attendance folders. Messages will be sent via a text, Facebook account, and Twitter. Any questions, contact Beth Papke at (847) 438-5294 or at papkeb@wwdb.org.

Attendance: On February 26, 108 attended service.  Twenty-five worshiped with us at Lexington Home Health Care on Wednesday.

Wednesday Morning Lexington Worship Service: Join us Wednesday mornings from 10:30-11:00 at Lexington Nursing Home in the second floor cafeteria. It’s a great opportunity to share God's love with the residents with singing, liturgy, sermon, prayers and passing of the peace.

Social Outreach
In keeping with past tradition, we will again be preparing Easter baskets for LSSI to distribute to children in programs it offers. We have committed to providing 60 baskets complete with items such as candy, plastic eggs, bubble solution, paddle balls, and crayons/coloring books.  So, if you’re looking to bring a big Easter smile to a child, this opportunity is for you! A sign-up sheet listing donations we need has been posted in the narthex; please note we need the items by Sunday, April 2nd. Donations may be placed in the blue laundry basket sitting in the narthex hallway; be sure to write your name on your donation so we may track receipt of items. Then, on Sunday, April 9th we will be putting the baskets together after the 10:30 am service; this is a wonderful family activity so plan on joining Social Outreach in putting the baskets together. The more the merrier!!! Questions…see Jean Foltin.

McHenry Human Race: Sue Koenig is looking for volunteers to join in the fun of doing a 5K walk or run (approx. 3 miles) on April 23, 2017.  This 5K is special in that the money raised goes to help many local non-profits in McHenry County.  She is on a team to raise money for Home of the Sparrow, an agency that helps women and children who have experienced domestic violence or homelessness. The team name is Super Sparrows. The race starts at 8:00am at McHenry County College Crystal Lake. You can register for this event online at  www.volunteercentermchenrycounty.org or call 815-344-4483.   The cost is $35 until March 31 and then the cost is $40 until the race day. Just click on "join a team" and you can be a part of the fun!  Please call Sue Koenig with any questions.

Bernie’s Book Bank: Thank you to everyone who has donated books! Also, we will continue to drop off and a box is located I the narthex. You can sign up at https://berniesbookbank.org/volunteer. Thank you.

Safe Haven Gift Card Donations:  Thank you to everyone who has donated Walmart Gift Cards! They are much appreciated and will be used to buy needed household items. A box is in the narthex on a table labeled Safe Haven Donations. Please include a note with your name and address so that a thank you can be sent. You can purchase a gift card directly or you can order through Lori Schwartz at the beginning of the month which will also benefit our youth! Thank you for your continued support of this wonderful ministry!  If you have any questions, please reach out to Chris Franson or Sandy Hanna.

The Jewelry in the Narthex will be put away for a while.. Thank you Doris for your generous donation and Natalie for displaying the items so beautifully!
