If you are registered to worship in person, please look for the protocols in your email.
Please note that the liturgy will be recorded and posted to YouTube within 24 hours of the Sunday service. Watch your email for the link to the YouTube video, or find it online at www.peacelutheranlz.com. Peace be with you and with all who dwell in your house!
NO RESERVATIONS AFTER MAY 2
As of Sunday, May 2 we are no longer taking reservations for Sunday gatherings. We will gather for worship on the lawn behind the fire pit. If rain is forecasted, the congregation will be notified by Saturday that the service will take place indoors. Windows will be opened for airflow. Households will be spaced evenly throughout the sanctuary, fellowship hall, and narthex to maintain the recommended distance.

Wanted: Assisting Ministers
The Worship and Music Team would like to send out a huge THANK YOU to all of those who have been helping to serve in this role through all of the changes the pandemic has brought us. As we transition to outdoor services (with indoor as a weather related backup plan), we once again wanted to reach out to the congregation to see who would be able to come alongside our current Assisting Minister's and serve in this capacity.
Our goal is to gain enough assistants to stretch out the rotation to only once every 6-8 weeks. At this time, you would need to be available for only a 9am worship service and it would be helpful if you are comfortable serving indoors as well. If you have already been attending indoor services, this is a great opportunity to help keep those services going strong!
Please know that we welcome those who even would just like to give the role a try! We will continue to check in with all those agreeing to assist to ensure their comfort levels with any changes to service that may arise going forward as well.
If you are interested in serving in this capacity or in finding out more, please email Lisa or Samantha at firstname.lastname@example.org
Join your Sunday school friends on May 2 & 16 from 10:00-10:30 as we focus on the theme of “Get Ready and Wait.” A meeting link will be sent on the Saturday prior to the lesson. Contact Liz or Natalie with any questions. Each Sunday you can access the Children’s bulletin with activities that enable families to worship together and learn from each week’s Scripture theme. You will find them at the end of your Sunday email for worship.
Adult Forum: Join us IN PERSON OR ONLINE Sunday, May 2 at 10:00 a.m. as we explore Marjorie J. Thompson’s spiritual masterpiece Soul Feast: An Invitation to the Christian Spiritual Life, revised edition.
Women’s Bible Study: We are reading “From Widows to Warriors” by Lynn Japinga. In this book we will hear about over 40 women from the Old Testament, both the saints and the bad girls. We will dive into what each woman’s story means for us today with questions for reflection and discussion. Starting in May, (May 4th), we will meet on Tuesday mornings at 9am at church. We are praying for nice weather so that we can meet outside but if the weather does not cooperate, we will meet inside in the narthex. You can bring your own lawn chair or use a chair from the church. If you have any questions, contact Carol Wojnarowski
HS Mission Trip Change: Earlier this year, our Youth families met with our Youth Director, Tracy Katschke, to discuss COVID and traveling for a mission trip this summer. It was decided NOT to go to Boston this year, but instead to put together an at-home mission trip! The new mission trip week is July 19th-23rd, 2021 and Tracy will be putting together daily service opportunities with Northern Illinois Food Bank and Habitat for Humanity; as well as ways to serve within our church and congregation! We will work Monday-Thursday of that week and have a “fun day” on Friday! If you are interested, the cost is $125/teen, with a $25 deposit due to Tracy by May 1st! Chaperones are also needed!
Triple D: We will be meeting again on Sunday, May 16th from 11:30am-12:30pm in the Peace Lutheran parking lot (weather permitting). Please bring your own lawn chair and a shower towel for a game. Get ready for an hour of awesome conversation and lots of fun!
Confirmation Classes: The Peace Lutheran Confirmation class resumed for it’s spring session over Zoom on Wednesday, April 7th, but will be launching something NEW in the coming weeks. Starting Wednesday, April 21st and lasting until May 5th, the Confirmation class will meet in a “hybrid” style. For those who wish to meet in person, class will begin at 6:15pm in the Peace parking lot (please bring your own chair and masks are required). The in-person session will meet from 6:15-7:15pm. From 7-8pm, the virtual session will meet and the hope is that the fifteen minute overlap in classes will allow for a time to check-in and provide community! If the hybrid model does not work, Tracy will look into other options.
Community Garden Preparation/Planting Day!: Spring is here, which means that it is time to start up the Peace Lutheran Community Garden! The garden will be expanding again this year, so we will need BOTH Confirmation and Youth Group participants to help. We will be working on the Community Garden during the May Day clean up on Saturday, May 1st from 9am-4pm. One of our Youth Group members, Grace Trumbull, will be leading the project since this initiative is part of her Girl Scout Gold Award. On May 1st, we will need to: build additional raised garden beds, till the soil, add new soil, expand the chicken wire, build trellises and, of course, plant seeds and vegetable plants! All teens are encouraged to bring their own water bottle and tools. Once we finish with the community garden, there will be PLENTY of other projects to work on!
Mobile Food Pantry: The next mobile food pantry will be on May 15 at the Chapel in Lake Zurich (by the library). It will run from 10-12pm. If you need food or know someone who does, please plan to attend. You do not need to be registered before the event. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Sue Koenig and she will provide the link to you. Masks will be worn during this event. The event will be outside in their parking lot.
Adult Mission Trip 2021 Update: This summer, we will be heading to Omaha, Nebraska. We will be staying at The Presbyterian Church of the Cross and working with the Omaha Rapid Response. Our dates are August 15-21, 2021.
In March of 2019, this area experienced a devastating flood. A heavy rain fell on top of melting snow causing a dam (built in 1927) to be breached on the Missouri River. There was over 3 billion dollars in losses to the area. Because volunteer groups were cancelled to the area last year because of the pandemic, many people are still waiting for help to rebuild their homes.
Our work projects will consist of construction and landscaping projects of some sort but the specifics will have to wait until closer as jobs are started and finished by the 3 groups that will be heading to the area before us. There will NOT be any community service projects on this particular mission trip.
The church will be providing air mattresses, sheets, blankets and towels. There are showers on site and we will be preparing our own meals in their kitchen.
The cost of the trip is $200 with a $25 deposit due by June 15. The remainder of the money will be due by July 31. The deposit will be refunded if we need to cancel the trip because of Covid. There is scholarship money available to those in need, with a maximum of up to $100 provided per applicant.
We know this is a difficult decision as to whether this is a safe enough time to participate in this trip and to travel. Here are some of the ways that we plan to keep our group as safe as possible:
If you have health issues that you feel may be a concern on this trip, please reach out to your doctor to discuss the situation with him/her. For some people, the best decision this year might be to opt out of participating even if it is something a part of you really wants to do.
We will be having a zoom meeting to ask any questions before May 15 and if you are interested in receiving an invite, please email or call Sue Koenig. You are welcome to email or call Sue before that too!
Please prayerfully consider going on the mission trip this year. As things hopefully will improve over the summer with increased vaccinations, we look forward to serving safely in another community. One of the most important things our mission trips do is bring some hope to people that are hurting, to let them know that they are not forgotten and that God's love is still there and will bring us together again.
If you know you are interested in going on this trip, please let me know ASAP as we only have 20 spots available to us for both Peace and Living Lord Lutheran Church (our partner church).
