Dear Friends in Christ
This Sunday is our Semiannual Congregation meeting at 9:15 a.m. Please come to be informed about our mission at Peace Lutheran. Please stay for the Ministry Fair after the meeting – find out how you can support our ministry at Peace! The theme of worship this week is returning God’s blessing. Jesus tells a parable about tenants who work the vineyard. This ancient story has learnings for us today! Come to be nourished in faith by hearing the Word and sharing in the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Adult Forum: On break this Sunday for the congregation meeting. Next Sunday we will continue viewing a video called “Reformation Roots.” This video explains how there are so many Christian denominations, and what differences are among them. Pastor Mark will lead discussion. Please read Philippians chapter 3 and the sidebar notes for this chapter in your Lutheran Study Bible (LSB.) Here we hear the Apostle Paul complain about his competitors in the practice of preaching the Gospel – the “Judaizers,” who want Gentiles to convert to Judaism before they are recognized as Christians. Despite these challenges, Paul conveys some wonderful encouragement to the Christians in Philippi. The famous phrase “our citizenship is in heaven . . .” is found in verse 20. If you don’t yet have a LSB, see Pastor Mark. PRINTS OF PEACE PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH ANNOUNCEMENTS October 8, 2017 Worship Schedule: We are now in our our two services worship schedule: 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Semiannual Congregation Meeting: Join us today between services at 9:15 a.m., for an informational meeting. Join us whether you are a member or friend of Peace. Ministry Fair: See the displays after the meeting about the many ways you can serve Peace! Reading for Next Week: Please read Philippians chapter 4 and the sidebar notes for this chapter in your Lutheran Study Bible (LSB.) In this letter we see a mature Paul, one who perhaps is at the end of his life. He has softened his rhetoric here in this letter. We don’t know who Euodia and Synthyche were, but they were obviously leaders in the Christian community in Philippi, and they were seemingly at odds with each other. Pay attention to the wonderful passages of encouragement in verses 4-7, and 8-9. If you don’t yet have a LSB, see Pastor Mark. The answers to these questions lie in the dramatic and turbulent times of the Reformation. Simply Giving: Many of our members and friends give by Simply Giving automated debit. There are forms on the table in the narthex.
