Dear Friends in Christ
Saturday pot luck and fire pit at church at 4:30. Bring a German dish to share. This event has been approved for bring your own wine or beer. This Sunday we consider Jesus’ conflict with the religious authorities of his time. They want to control him. Jesus bests them in their test for him. Ultimately he will pay the price on the cross for the brokenness of humankind, but Jesus makes his point that people should worship God, not the emperor.  Come to be nourished in faith by hearing the Word and sharing in the Sacrament of Holy Communion.  Adult Forum:  This Sunday we will continue viewing a video called “Reformation Roots.” This video explains how there are so many Christian denominations, and what differences are among them. Pastor Mark will lead discussion. Please read1 Thessalonians chapter 1 and the sidebar notes for this chapter in your Lutheran Study Bible (LSB.) This letter is perhaps the earliest writing in the New Testament, about 50 A.D., or before. Here the apostle Paul (apostle means witness of the resurrected Jesus) writes to his church in Thessalonica, in modern day Macedonia. He commends and encourages the followers of Jesus. If you don’t yet have a LSB, see Pastor Mark.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
October 22, 2017

Worship Schedule: Our worship schedule is the service of Holy Communion at 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

Reading for Next Week: Please read John chapter 8 and the sidebar notes for this chapter in you Lutheran Study Bible (LSB). This chapter was essential to Luther’s emphasis of grace in the Reformation. Luther points out that Jesus says “the truth will set you free.” The truth is that we are free in our relationship with God, we are free from God’s demands so therefore we joyfully serve our neighbor - therefore serving God. If you don’t yet have a LSB, see Pastor Mark.

Ongoing Opportunities
Adult Forum: Join us this morning in the sanctuary at 9:15am. We will be viewing a video series called Reformation Roots. Do you ever wonder why we have so many Christian denominations, and if there is really much difference between them? The answers to these questions lie in the dramatic and turbulent times of the Reformation.

Simply Giving: Many of our members and friends give by Simply Giving automated debit. This program has no fees for you or our congregation. This program is very important for our congregation. It keeps income steady during the summer months when giving drops because of people being out of town. Please consider it! If you do participate in Simply Giving, when you worship please grab a Giving Acknowledgment Card from an usher in order to physically fulfill the act of giving during the offertory. There are forms on the table in the narthex.

Giving Acknowledgment Cards:  If you participate in the Simply Giving program or if you do not have an offering on a particular Sunday you can still participate in the act of giving during the service. Ask an usher for a small laminated Giving Acknowledgment Card before you enter the sanctuary. You can then place the card in the offering plate to acknowledge your support of our ministries atPeace.

Prayer Requests: We pray for those who need healing and wholeness: for Mike Wilms, Wes Willard, Shareen Hilger, Amy Falco, Justin Morgenthaler; Kathy Zak, Kristen Jorgensen, and Gina Redina. Our practice is we will pray for an individual for at least 4 Sundays or until the end of the following month. After that time, we ask that you contact the office or Pastor Mark to keep your loved one on the prayer list. If your loved one inadvertently falls off the prayer list, please request to put this person back on the list. Thank you.) We need pray‑ers! If you would like to be a participant in the Circle ofPrayer, please contact Terry Koncel at peaceprays@mail.com.

Inspirational Messages: Pastor Mark would like to reach out to the congregation with a brief message a couple times per week. If you want to receive these, please fill out the form in the red attendance folders. Messages will be sent via a text, Facebook account, and Twitter. Any questions, contact Beth Papke at (847) 438-5294 or at papkeb@wwdb.org.
