IMPORTANT UPDATES – WEEKLY CHANGES
Contents (scroll down for each): THIS WEEKEND - Saturday and Sunday Care & Concern Peace Lutheran Church Facemask Policy Pastor Daniel’s Office Hours Getting to Know You Fellowship Faith Formation Now How to give your offering Youth Social Outreach THIS WEEKEND Worship We welcome you to worship outside on Saturday, September 12, at 6:00pm. Communion will be celebrated at this worship service. We will have a specia Rally Dayl blessing celebrating Peace’s ministries! We will gather in accordance with all required safety protocols (see below). Saturday: What to expect for in-person communion Christ offers us his real presence in a multitude of ways, and in a plurality of places! In communion, however, his presence to us and for us is made so very clear. We will celebrate communion in a manner in which you can be assured you will receive the full blessing of the sacrament, and also safely participate in the midst of the current pandemic. Please note that we will be sharing communion in the same manner (bread only) whether celebrating at Peace on Saturday or at home on Sunday as an expression of unity around the Lord’s Table. We ask that you bring bread from home Prepare to bring a small portion of bread for you and your household. Carry it sealed with you to worship. In the communion service you will be invited to take it out, unwrap and hold it up during the prayer of consecration, and eat. Uneaten bread should return home with you to be consumed there. The cup while consecrated will not be served. This is in keeping with the tradition (may be unusual to us in modern times) of receiving communion in one kind (bread) instead of both kinds (bread and wine). We are assured in either manner that Christ gives himself fully to us and for us for the forgiveness of our sins, and sends us out to share his love with the world. In case you forget to bring bread, a limited number of individually wrapped gluten-free wafers will be available. Protocols to be respected at in-person worship: Please note the following protocols to be respected for all who are in attendance:
Virtual Coffee Hour/Adult Ed: Sunday, 10:00 a.m. Don’t touch that! A look at why changing the liturgy can be disturbing and exciting. This week we pray for Mike Wilms, Sherri Juveland, Mike Tetour, Brad Baker, Lizetta Moore, Amanda Morris, Kim Wilkinson, Kyle, and Randy Bounds as well as all students, educators, and families who are beginning the academic year. We also pray for all who are in danger from and affected by the wildfires out west including Wendy Brown and Tamara Alliston Johnson with her family. We welcome prayer requests. Let us remember to life up our needs, concerns, and joys – and those of others – in our prayer! Make your prayer request by emailing Pastor Daniel pastor@peacelutheranlz.com or the church office office@peacelutheranlz.com . We care for one another: If you have any special needs or know someone who does, reach out to the Caring Tree by contacting Judy Tetour or Pastor Daniel. How are you doing – you, your family or household? Expect a phone, email or text. A CONNECTIONS TEAM of volunteers and staff are checking in with all Peace households. We are the church – connected! Peace Lutheran Church Face Mask Policy for Covid-19 phases 3 and 4: A face mask must be worn by all persons age 2 and up:
This face mask policy applies to all church clergy, staff, members and visitors. The only exception applies to church clergy and staff who may choose to take their face mask off when they are 1) in their office AND 2) they are alone AND 3) their door is closed. A face mask, worn properly, must cover your mouth and nose at all times. In all other cases and with all other events held outside on church property, a mask should be worn if social distancing cannot be maintained. As always, when attending any small group event outside, where you are uncomfortable with the ability to maintain social distancing, you are always encouraged to wear a mask. This policy is based on CDC and IDPH guidance as of 8/23/2020. PASTOR DANIEL’S OFFICE HOURS Pastor Daniel will be working remotely until the baby is born. You can reach him by email (pastor@peacelutheranlz.com) or by cell phone (847.421.4518). He will have virtual appointment blocks at the following times if you want to talk or meet over Zoom: Wednesdays 10:00 - 11:00a.m., 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. Thursdays 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Fridays 10:00 - 11:00a.m., 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. Thank you for your understanding and support. God bless you. GETTING TO KNOW YOU Pandemic got you down? Join Pastor Daniel, Amanda, and Ethan for a virtual happy hour! Prepare your own appetizers and drinks at home. Then enjoy them with 30 minutes of good conversation and toddler antics over Zoom! Check back soon for sign-up information. FELLOWSHIP Our playground has reopened. We are following the protocols being used by the LZ Parks and Recreation department, which is basically playing at your own risk. Based on information from the CDC and IPDH, the virus is killed by UV rays from the sun, so there is no need to sanitize the playground. We ask parents to monitor their kids while they play on the playground. Try to keep social distancing between kids of different families. Kids should be wearing masks if more than one family is on the playground. At this time we are not reopening the Music Wall or the basketball hoop. It is pretty impossible to social distance while doing both of those activities. Wine Women and Weeding. Come on over, and as we chat, weed, have a sip of wine and enjoy each other’s company. Every Wednesday at 6:00 at the Labyrinth. Brewing Questions is Back!: It's been a while since we have gathered for Brewing Questions, so let's do so....over Zoom! Everyone is welcome to join in for some great conversation, laughs and, of course, bring your beverage of choice. Our next Brewing Questions meeting will be in October. If you are interested, please visit the virtual gathering section on PLC website home page for the Zoom link! ‘Secret Sister’ Update: We will be moving our Secret Sister Reveal until early fall. In the meantime, it is always good to pray and we hope you have kept your “Secret Sister” in your daily prayers. We would encourage you to use the old fashioned letter with a stamp to send a warm thought to your secret sister on a monthly basis or if you live close, you can drop them off a goodie in their mailbox. They may have guessed who you were, but if not, the fun will continue! At this time, if you pop in the church, please do not post any new notes on the bulletin board as it is not actively being monitored. Please reach out to Sherri Juveland and Sandy Hanna with any questions. Stay safe and enjoy these summer days! Tracy will send out the Wednesday Zoom link, as well as the 5-10 minute lesson video, to families on the Monday before our Wednesday class. Depending on comfort levels and the pandemic, we will decide as January 2021 gets closer as to whether to continue with only a virtual option. - GOD'S WORK, OUR HANDS MONTH OF SERVICE!: In honor of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, the Metro Chicago Synod participates in God Work, Our Hands Sunday every year. God's Work, Our Hands usually falls on the Sunday closest to September 11th. On this day, congregations from around the country participate in a day of service - cleaning up neighborhoods, serving at food pantries, painting schools, etc. However, with the pandemic, serving in a group is not feasible. Tracy, our Youth Director, has put together a God's Work, Our Hands calendar with a FULL month of service opportunities that can be done as a family or individually - all from home! Try to complete one of these tasks each day!! FOR ALL PARISHIONERS: BUTTERFLIES FOR WORSHIP!: During our Saturday worship, Pastor Daniel will be saying a prayer/blessing to "kick-off" all fall ministries at Peace Lutheran. To accompany the prayer, we are asking ALL congregation members to consider coloring a butterfly to bring to worship. During the blessing, the butterflies will be held up to symbolize "flying" into the new programming year! All colored butterflies will then be given to Tracy to be displayed on the glass doors of church! Please consider coloring one - or more - of the butterflies provided below! Both links are printer friendly and we can't wait to "soar" into fall programming together!
