Video: Read along responsively:  Psalm 130

1Out of the depths
            I cry to you, O LORD;
2O LORD, hear my voice!
            Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication.
3If you were to keep watch over sins,
            O LORD, who could stand?
4Yet with you is forgiveness,
            in order that you may be feared.
5I wait for you, O LORD; my soul waits;
            in your word is my hope.
6My soul waits for the Lord
more than those who keep watch for the morning,
            more than those who keep watch for the morning.
7O Israel, wait for the LORD, for with the LORD there is steadfast love;
            with the LORD there is plenteous redemption.
8For the LORD shall redeem Israel
            from all their sins.

Video – Children’s message

Video – Gospel reading and Sermon:  John 11:1-45 Deacon Tracy and Pastor Dale

Video & Sing along – Hymn of the Day: “The Word of God is Source and Seed”  (Red book #506)

The Word of God is source and seed; it comes to die and sprout and grow.  So make your dark earth welcome warm; root deep the grain God bent to sow.

Refrain: Gaudeamus Domino, gaudeamos Domino, gaudeamos Domino! (In the Lord let us rejoice, in the Lord let us rejoice, in the Lord let us rejoice!)

The Word of God is breath and life; it comes to heal an wake and save.  So let the Spirit touch and mend and rouse your dry bones from their grave.

Refrain: Gaudeamus Domino, gaudeamos Domino, gaudeamos Domino! (In the Lord let us rejoice, in the Lord let us rejoice, in the Lord let us rejoice!)

The Word of God is flesh and grace, who comes to sing, to laugh and cry.  So dare to be as Jesus was, who came to live and love and die.

Refrain: Gaudeamus Domino, gaudeamos Domino, gaudeamos Domino! (In the Lord let us rejoice, in the Lord let us rejoice, in the Lord let us rejoice!)

Next Sunday (April 5) is Palm Sunday – a Sunday with two names:  “Sunday of the Passion” and “Palm Sunday”.  The two names reflect the two scriptures that focus our worship on this entry into Holy Week.  Please read of the triumphal entry of Christ into Jerusalem in Matthew 21:1-11, and a section of the passion (suffering) of Christ in Matthew 27:1-54.  The contrast of these two moments within the last days of Christ’s life is striking.  The Word is powerful to transform the trials we suffer on our journey with Christ toward Easter.

Please let us know how YOU are doing – or if you, your neighbor, or someone you know has any need!

We are saving lives by offering our worship to God in this format.   The only tool we all have right now to SLOW the spread of the coronavirus is distance – social distance.  For this reason, our church building is closed.  Pastor Dale, Tracy and Allison are all working out of our homes. We are following protocols that follow state and local guidelines.

Video and say responsively: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6IiZiKTXIw

1The LORD is my shepherd;
            I shall not be in want.
2The LORD makes me lie down in green pastures
            and leads me beside still waters.
3You restore my soul, O LORD,
            and guide me along right pathways for your name's sake.
4Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I shall fear no evil;
            for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
            you anoint my head with oil, and my cup is running over.
6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
            and I will dwell in the house of the | LORD forever.

Amazing grace! – how sweet the sound – that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found; was blind, but now I see.

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed!

Through many dangers, toils, and snares I have already come;
‘Tis grace has brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me; his word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be as long as life endures.

When we’ve been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise than when we’d first begun.

Next Sunday (March 29) Scripture Reflection: John 11:1-45.
This narrative describes the context for one of Jesus’ most profound miracles, the raising of Lazarus from death. Jesus, after long-distance correspondence with Lazarus’ family (his BFFs), and after arriving at the scene to meet up with his grieving friends, he is brought to the tomb where Lazarus is laid.  There, Jesus wept.  A most compelling moment in this story, and insight into who Jesus is FOR YOU, and how Jesus is FOR YOU.  He is a dearest friend, who can identify with the griefs, stresses, crises, and troubles YOU experience.  While we are not able these days to take communion at church and hear the words, “Given and shed FOR YOU,” please be assured every day and every moment Jesus is FOR YOU… his body broken FOR you and his blood shed FOR YOU.  Say Amen!

Please let us know how YOU are doing – or if you, your neighbor, or someone you know has any need!

Online Devotional - March 15, 2020

Opening reflection and prayer: “Prayer of St. Patrick”

In preparing this devotion for Peace congregation in the absence of meeting physically this week, I was trying to recall where I had placed the hardcopy of a prayer I have loved for a long time and once tried to memorize, called St. Patrick’s Breastplate. Nearly given up in that search, I started researching on the web where I found this recent hymn by the Townend family* which captures the beautiful essence of the very long Prayer of St. Patrick.
Please use this prayer throughout these days of caution and potential crisis, saying it again and again.  It is centering. It is comforting.  It places us where we always are, right in the heart of God’s caring embrace. Let these words hold you:
Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me and before me.
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore.
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in hearts of all who know me.
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger,
Christ in quiet and in roar.
Love, blessed Trinity of three,
Bound in unity
Who guides my journey.
I will arise with strength of heaven
Trusting in Your light
To guide my journey
Shine before me
Lead me home.
Power to guide me, might to hold me,
Wisdom teach me, watching o’er me.
Ear to hear me, hand to guard me,
Love to conquer every fear.

This prayer recognizes the closeness of Christ in every part of our lives. He is within us, beside us, in those around us, and we can call on him to provide us with all the protection and resources that we need in our daily walk with Christ.
The ‘Prayer of St Patrick’ was originally a prayer for protection in battle, but we have battles in many forms today.  One of the greatest battles we have faced in a long, long time faces us now with the coronavirus advancing.  The bottom line of this prayer is that we are surrounded by God from every single angle, and the protection that He brings us in every area of life.

Peace Prayers of Intercession for Sunday March 15

Our intercessions this week are inspired by the prayers that you the congregation have submitted.

Turning our hearts to God who is gracious and merciful, we pray for the church, the world, and all who are in need.

O God of living water, you give life to all.  As we join in prayer, we look to you for good health, and for food to meet our daily needs.  Thank you for all the blessings you provide!  Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

O God of living water, your purpose is that all might live, that all might have both food and water to sustain them, and also living water that wells up to eternal life.  Keep us on the path to be passionate about our mission to serve and help others.  Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

O God of living water, as your son Jesus crossed boundaries that separated people, help us to be an inclusive community.  Teach us better how to invite others, especially those who are different from us.  Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

O God of living water, you continue to refresh and revive us as a congregation.  We pray that you guide us to the future, take our hand as we select a pastor to lead us.  Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

O God of living water: Come to the aid of all who face tragedy and suffering. Give courage to those who face infectious disease, grant safety for those who care for them. Grant wisdom and compassion to leaders of all nations, and our own.  Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

For all those who are in need of your grace and care today we pray:  for Mike Wilms.  Comfort all who are grieving, especially the Sullivan family on the loss of Carol’s brother-in-law and Melissa Michael’s uncle; and for the family of Jean Hawkins, sister of Carol Wojnarowski, who passed away last week. May all who mourn be comforted by the promise of eternal life.  Lord, in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

We pray now also for those we name before you either silently or aloud,…. And for ourselves and the concerns that we lift up to you and the joys for which we give you thanks….
Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

Benediction:

May God who created us from the dust of the earth,
And claimed us as children of the light,
Strengthen us on our journey to new life.
The Lord bless us and keep us.
The Lord’s face shine upon us with grace and mercy.
The Lord look upon us with favor and give us (+) peace.
Amen.

Go in peace, serve the Lord.
Thanks be to God

Please let us know how you are doing – or if you, your neighbor, or someone you know has any need!
