Amen. Joined to Christ in the waters of baptism, we are raised with him to new life. Let us give thanks for the gift of baptism. We give you thanks, O God, for in the beginning you created us in your image and planted us in a well-watered garden. In the desert you promised pools of water for the parched, and you gave us water from the rock. When we did not know the way, you sent the Good Shepherd to lead us to still waters. At the cross, you watered us from Jesus' wounded side, and on this day, you shower us again with the water of life. We praise you for your salvation through water, for the water of baptism, and for all water everywhere. Bathe us in your forgiveness, grace, and love. Satisfy the thirsty, and give us the life only you can give. To you be given honor and praise through Jesus Christ our Lord in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen. VIDEO AND SING ALONG: Canticle of Praise Cantor: This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia. Worthy is Christ, the Lamb who was slain, whose blood set us free to be people of God. Power and riches and wisdom and strength, and honor and blessing and glory are his. Refrain: This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia. Sing with all the people of God and join in the hymn of all creation: Blessing and honor and glory and might be to God and the Lamb forever. Amen. Final refrain: This is the feast of victory for our God, for the Lamb who was slain has begun his reign. Alleluia. Alleluia. When you heard the wonder of the Word I was there to cheer you on; you were raised to praise the living Lord, to whom you now belong. If you find someone to share your time and you join your hearts as one, I’ll be there to make your verses rhyme from dusk till rising sun. In the middle ages of your life, not too old, no longer young, I’ll be there to guide you through the night, complete what I’ve begun. When the evening gently closes in and you shut your weary eyes, I’ll be there as I have always been, with just one more surprise. I was there to hear your borning cry, I’ll be there when you are old. How great Thou art! Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee, how great thou art! How great Thou art! When through the woods and forest glades I wonder, I hear birds sing sweetly in the trees; When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur and hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze; Refrain But when I think of God, his Son not sparing, sent him to die, I scarce can take it in, That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing he bled and died to take away my sin; Refrain When Christ shall come, with shouts of acclamation, and take me home, what joy shall fill my heart! Then I shall bow with humble adoration and there proclaim, “My God, how great Thou art!” Refrain VIDEO: Dismissal Go in peace. Christ is with you. Thanks be to God. Response: I do. As you bring Carter and Adeline to receive the gift of baptism, you are entrusted with responsibilities: to live with them among God’s faithful people, bring them to the word of God and the holy supper, teach them the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments, place in their hands the holy scriptures, and nurture them in faith and prayer, so that your children may learn to trust God, proclaim Christ through word and deed, care for others and the world God made, and work for justice and peace. Thanksgiving The presiding minister leads the thanksgiving. The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. We give you thanks, O God, for in the beginning your Spirit moved over the waters and by your Word you created the world, calling forth life in which you took delight. Through the waters of the flood you delivered Noah and his family, and through the sea you led your people Israel from slavery into freedom. At the river your Son was baptized by John and anointed with the Holy Spirit. By the baptism of Jesus’ death and resurrection you set us free from the power of sin and death and raise us up to live in you. Pour out your Holy Spirit, the power of your living Word, that these who are washed in the waters of baptism may be given new life. To you be given honor and praise through Jesus Christ our Lord, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Baptism Carter Jean Abbot I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Adeline Melaine Abbott I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The minister continues: Let us pray. We give you thanks, O God, that through water and the Holy Spirit you give your daughters and sons new birth, cleanse them from sin, and raise them to eternal life. Laying both hands on the head of each of the newly baptized, the minister prays for each: Sustain Carter Jean with the gift of your Holy Spirit: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord, the spirit of joy in your presence, both now and forever. Amen. Sustain Adeline Melaine with the gift of your Holy Spirit: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord, the spirit of joy in your presence, both now and forever. Amen. The sign of the cross is marked on the forehead of each of the baptized, as the minister says: Carter Jean, child of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked with the cross of Christ forever. Amen. Adeline Melaine, child of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked with the cross of Christ forever. Amen. A lighted candle is given to the sponsor as a representative of the congregation says: Let your light so shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Welcome A representative of the congregation leads the assembly in the welcome. Let us welcome the newly baptized. We welcome you into the body of Christ and into the mission we share: join us in giving thanks and praise to God and bearing God’s creative and redeeming word to all the world.
